I’m from the Bay Area and I go to San Francisco often for music shows that go late into the night. I never want to drive home late at night after partying, so I always take public transit and then book a hotel just to have somewhere to sleep before going back home. This is the kind of place you book when you just need a place to sleep and don’t want to spend too much for a night. I’ve stayed here many times over the past few years and yes, it’s in a bad area, but as long as you know how to stay safe in the area, the hotel itself is fine. I have gotten a room or two here that has not been as great, (towel racks hanging off the wall, sink right next to the bed, kind of musty and worn down), but when you get one of the remodeled rooms with the private bathroom, those are just fine for staying the night in. This hotel is cheap, close to Bart, and walking distance to the places we frequent like Union Square, Bill Graham, and the clubs on Folsom. The workers are always nice. Minus two stars because of the sketchy area and the occasional not-as-nice room, but it’s good enough that I’ll keep booking in the future because it’s worth the price.

By far the worst hotel I’ve stepped foot in. The hotel is unsanitary and the area is very very unsafe to the point I was hesitant to step foot outside. I expressed my concerns with the front desk and was met with nothing but disrespect. The staff was very unfriendly and useless. I requested a refund and was lied to, being told Expedia would handle it. After calling Expedia, I learned the hotel was actually responsible and they could not assist. Confronting the desk staff brought further disrespect and a raised voice. I eventually left, deciding it was not worth my time or my safety, and booked elsewhere.

SHITHOLE
4 nights and nothing works
– WiFi goes on and off. Couldn’t get any office work done. Embarrassing to explain to clients. Complained every night and answer was everything is fine at reception.
– rooms are incredibly small and I got one with private bath but it didn’t have soap. When asked they said “of housekeeping may have forgotten”
– not even a writing table to sit and work on
– loud noise everywhere and you can’t sleep. Changed room from street facing (307) to 319 but not that different.
Absolutely useless. That’s the best way to describe it. I travel a lot and have stayed in many hotels in SF but this was a new level of unkept property and attitude.

I give 5 stars for the overall experience and the time that I had was great. The rooms are a 3 for size and because the AC was just a ceiling fan. I NEED AC. However, the building is over 100 years old, so we were very accepting of the fact that it lacked a couple of things. I thought the place was charming and for the price point I really have zero complaints. Staff/Service was excellent as they were accommodating and polite. The area is a little rough but that is out of the hotels control and quite frankly I’m pretty used to the area so it didn’t bother me much. Would book again.

DO NOT BOOK.
I am someone who is low maintenance. I can live in a hut in the wilderness with no electricity and be happy, but this place was honestly horrific.
The staff were nice, but first red flag was the elevator broken with my room on 4th floor. Then red flags rushed in as soon as I walked in my room.
Room was disgusting, with red/brown stains all over the sheets and bed. The room just didn’t feel clean. There was a synthetic smell of some drug OTHER than weed/tobacco that would come in and out. That smell would fill the hotel hallways and my room at different times.
Shower was luke warm. No shampoo, soap, conditioner, handsome. Even the towels seemed a little sus with spots on them.
The area was not the best, with people doing drugs and shlumped over in front and all of the blocks surrounding.
NOT SAFE FOR FAMILIES. And honestly not even a place for those solo/groups who just book places for the night. UNLESS you’re okay with second hand mystery drug smoke filling your lungs as you sleep. I am happy I have friends out here, cuz I booker 2 nights, and 0/2 of those nights I stayed in this hotel. I didn’t even want to bother for getting refund.
