Orr Hot Springs is easily at the top of my list as a fellow hot springs lover. I’ve visited several noteworthy springs throughout California, but there’s something truly magical about this place. You can feel the peaceful energy the moment you arrive on the property. Surrounded by trees and tucked away in nature, it feels serene, grounding, and completely removed from the stress of everyday life.

The waters themselves are incredible. There’s this subtle electric buzz of energy you feel while soaking, and afterward your skin feels unbelievably soft and silky. It’s the kind of place that leaves your body relaxed and your mind completely quiet.

I will say, it’s definitely off the beaten path. The drive is long, winding, and remote, but if you can get past that, it is absolutely worth it. Just take your time. Personally, I prefer not driving those roads after dark, so I highly recommend arriving during daylight and leaving before nighttime if possible.

One thing I missed during my first visit was Montgomery Woods State Natural Reserve, but on my second trip I finally explored it — and it was breathtaking. If you drive about a mile and a half past Orr, you’ll find a stunning redwood forest with beautiful hiking trails. If you arrive before check-in, it’s the perfect place for a picnic or peaceful walk through the trees.

It’s also important to know that the property has a communal atmosphere. There’s a shared kitchen space where guests store and prepare food, which honestly adds to the experience and sense of connection. And like many hot springs, it is clothing optional. While I personally choose to wear clothing, I genuinely admire the freedom and comfort people have in embracing their bodies and existing naturally in the space. It never made me uncomfortable, but it’s something visitors should be aware of beforehand.

The property is clean, beautiful, and thoughtfully maintained, and the staff are warm and welcoming. This place truly feels like a hidden little gem, and selfishly, I hope it stays that way.

Super unique and special place to go when you need a reset. Photos will never quite do it justice with how the place is truly built into the landscape along the waterway. Had a fantastic experience with the massage services and the facility as a whole. For folks looking for a resort experience where you’re being waited on hand and foot, this isn’t that. However, if you’re willing to pack in some food and do a little prep on the front end, this place is truly perfect for decompressing and disconnecting.
