I anticipated that finding a skilled professional for typewriter maintenance and repair anytime after the last quarter of the twentieth century would be nearly impossible, and the idea that I might find one who was local seemed not worth the search, but I looked anyway and, lo and behold, what to my wondering eyes did appear (yes, it was a little bit faith and a little bit magic), but a listing for TGIF Repairs Inc, and enter Phiĺ Hurst!

What I presented to Phil was a machine that, though dirty, still showed itself to be the once lovely seafoam green Hermes 3000 my parents bought for me at the beginning of my senior year and that had played a starring role into the early 1990’s when it had been unceremoniously replaced by a computer and, locked in its hardshell case, it was shelved, its keys gummy and its gullet holding nearly twenty-five years worth of eraser waste!

Well, Phil wasted no time in expending hours of labor expertly and meticulously restoring my Hermes to its former clickety-clackety efficient best, and he did so sooner than anticipated and for a price less than was estimated, and along the way he directed me to his sources for ribbon and matching platen knobs, which meant not only easy shopping but further savings to me as well!
