Tasty food, if you work in Gaslamp and come in your uniform, you get a discount. Food is pretty filling. A large assortment of salsa, pickled jalapeños, and grilled onions. I believe the food here has more value than Tacos El Franc and Tacos El Gordo, without sacrificing flavor. The salsas themselves also provide a good range of spice and flavor.
Excellent food overall and nice open-air ambience. Took one star off the rating due to inconsistent portion sizes. The first day I went, I ordered three tacos to eat in and they were generously filled and well presented (see photo). Based on my first experience which was good, I went back two days later for more tacos, which I ordered to go. They were tiny, underfilled, and easily half the size of the ones I had eaten before (the taco shell could easily be rolled into a cylinder like a roll-up). I was pretty disappointed to get back to my hotel and open up the puny tacos. Portion sizes should be consistent day to day, and I am unlikely to order again in the future due to this.
Food was amazing. I got the shrimp tacos and quesabirria. The tortillas are so fresh! Definitely could have eaten 10 more tacos! So glad my friend recommended this place. Parking is a little hard but we found a spot 2 blocks over and worth the walk!
I love this place! I come here at least once a week for lunch and it never disappoints.
It’s almost always busy, but somehow the service is still consistently great. The staff is friendly, the place is clean, and there’s always a fun atmosphere. My only “knock” is that sometimes the music is a little loud and it’s hard to hear, but that’s probably just me turning into an old man lol. Either way, it’s always a good vibe in there.
And the food is absolutely delicious. I’d argue these are easily the best tacos downtown…Tacos El Franc and Tacos El Gordo don’t come close. I usually get 3–4 tacos for lunch, and my favorites are the Camarón Enchilado, Mar y Tierra, Grilled Pescado, and Sonora. The ingredients always taste fresh, they don’t overdo it with sauces or try to cover everything up with too many flavors, and the meat and seafood are always perfectly seasoned and cooked.
I’ve had the burritos too, and they’re just as good (and definitely filling). The Mar y Tierra and California burritos could go toe-to-toe with just about any burrito in SD.
Great food, great people, great atmosphere. There’s a reason I keep coming back every week!
The food was cool. This is a trendy spot in downtown SD with very clear branding. The products matches the location.
I got the cali mar y Tierra burrito and a drink, which racked me about $21 before tip. I think that was my mistake. The portions were nice albeit being expensive. I think I should’ve tried the tacos instead, but they were around $5 a piece. The burrito had steak and shrimp with maybe about 4 small shrimps inside. The flavor itself was okay.
The taste and feeling of the place was a bit indicative of a gentrified downtown area. There was an expansive salsa bar which I appreciated, but their spiciest habanero salsa barely had a kick to it for my tastes. It feels a bit catered to a white palette which I can’t fault them too much for given the location. It also didn’t help that I ordered a cali style burrito which already falls into that style of food.
The staff was working hard to keep everything clean and organized which I can appreciate.
Overall, the food was decent, the atmosphere was nice, I might just try something else next time.
