Inedible eggs, but worse still really rude service.
I asked for sunny side up and got a plate with the whites completely liquid. I hate returning food but it was inedible so I asked if they could cook it a bit more to set the whites. The person I asked was fine with it, but then our other waiter came up to me and was incredibly hostile and condescending? “You said you wanted sunny side up. You want over easy? Over medium?” I just wanted the egg whites set? She made me question if maybe sunny side up means runny whites so I figured over easy because I did want the yolks to be runny – but the whites set. I thought they’d just flip it onto the griddle for the three seconds it would take to accomplish that.
Instead I was given “over easy” eggs that were even more raw than the sunny side up ones, and no follow up.
I really have to stress that I hate confrontation so I was extremely nice during both interactions, even saying “this is my bad, but can you please…” etc.
Anyway, the whole point of this spot is supposed to be warm service, right? Instead I felt like I was in the twilight zone and even googled to see if I’m wrong and runny whites are acceptable for either sunny side up or over easy eggs. They’re not.
i love this place!
my partner and i went for the first time this past weekend, and i just adore a cozy diner that gives free coffee refills without having to ask !
the staff are kind and patient. the omelets were tasty and filling. we will definitely be returning soon to try more!
Mom and pop breakfast eatery. Offers various American breakfast entree as well as Mexican entree.
Overall the food was delicious except that the home potatoes could be better – some potatoes were on the hard end so probably need to cook a little more. But it was flavorful, lightly crispy on the outside and not overly oily.
I like the atmosphere since it wasn’t too loud and without any screens, it was great for kids compared to other breakfast locations on the island where it tends to be too loud, and without any screens all around.
It was good! The service was amazing, super fast and attentive staff. Very cozy place. The price and portions are good. But, the food looked better than it tasted. I got the Marti’s special omelet with potatoes. It was ok. The coffee was not strong and tasted instant made. I wish you could customize your own omelet, it would be great!

Mari’s Place is one of those Alameda spots that just feels easy to like. Good food, friendly people and laid back. Such a solid local spot.
My swedish cousin says you never put powdered sugar on swedish pancakes, but what does he know? He’s never made them for me.
