I had to leave a review because I’ve been hunting for the best aguachile—and specifically, the spiciest. Let me tell you, Pepe, the owner, does not disappoint. He stands on business and he stands on quality; if he says it’s spicy, it is definitely going to be spicy.
Nothing but good food and good vibes here. I went for a level 6.5–7, and it was perfect—that heat just lingers in your mouth in the best way. He clearly knows what he’s doing, and he’s super friendly, too. This is a five-star spot, and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for the real deal when it comes to spicy mariscos. To top it off, he let me try one of his famous shrimp tacos—total game changer. I’ll definitely be back.

We are very lucky to have a place like this in san jose. I’ve been coming to these guys since October of 2019. And they have never let me down. Same quality since day one. Always fresh. I used to drive from Burlingame just to pick up a plate of aguachiles. I like how they actually make their food spicy. And it hurts. I love spicy. Giving customers this option is something very few restaurants do.

Here’s a question for you: Do we really need another Mexican joint in the Alum Rock area? No, we do not. But please beware; Maricos el Aguachile 8 is not another Mexican joint. It is an incredibly delicious seafood restaurant.

I had the Tacos de Camaron. Three shrimp tacos with crispy tortilla shells, a spicy mayo drizzle, a Mexican style slaw, and wonderfully prepared shrimp. The shrimp had wonderful flavor which could be enhanced by fresh lime wedges. I am not one for hyperbole, but these were some of the best shrimp tacos I have ever had.

My wife had the Camarones al Ajillo. The plate had warm, fluffy rice, and a mountain of fresh shrimp garnished by sauteed and pickled onions, a tasty tomato-based sauce, and fresh cilantro. I snuck a taste, and it was fabulous.

Jose Rodriquez, the proprietor, sat with us at our table and told us how he went from cooking at home to owning a food truck, and now opening a restaurant. He lives locally, and shared his plans for outdoor dining as well as improving the exterior aesthetics. He was very pleasant, and I wish him the best of luck with the restaurant.

Let me warn you that this food, while delicious, is on the pricier side. Our 2 meals with 2 beers cost us around $90 with tip. But eating out anywhere, especially seafood, can be pretty expensive. I certainly can’t fault Jose because the man has to make a profit.

So if you are craving tasty, Mexican seafood, then Maricos el Aguachile 8 is absolutely worth it.

The mariscos here will bring you back to LIFE. A must go to cure a cruda. The osteones preparados were 20/10! Aguachiles were spicy, but very good. Portions were adequate with prices. Aguachiles plate can feed up to 4 people for sure.
Seating is outdoors in a spacious tent.
