Best hobby store ever.
I try any time I go anywhere to find a good hobby store and none even come close to Jakes.
Employees here are knowledgable and helpful. They greet you when you come in, they are eager to help with anything you need even if its not something they can personally help with (such as suggesting you order something they dont have from good sources they know of like RC4wd for example)
They have tons in stock, a crawlers paradise, some extreme talent and skill from Hunter specifically but all of the employees are beyond awesome.
I go into this store often with some pretty home-made ideas and nearly every time they have everything I need to complete it in full which is always unexpected. For example I bought a TRX4 builders kit which comes with wheel wells, I am doing something very custom and did not want those, but the shocks and panhard bar mount to them and so I needed some seperate shock tower option. I went to Jakes expecting to have to order the parts online, they had EXACTLY what I meeded and even MORE than I could ask for. Not only did they have TRX4 shock towers in stock, they even had an aluminum aftermarket option. Theyve got all sorts of weighted brass parts in stock, weighted wheels, battery adapters, etc. I went in recently for a battery for my new Traxxas TRX4. I run a Deans T and expected to need a shole new battery but to my surprise they had the perfect adapter in stock!! Saving me 35$ and allowing me to run my preffered batteries which I use for all of my trucks.
I know this is a lengthy review but I really cannot say enough about Jakes. I would even reccomend the serious enthusiast from other areas make the trip to check it out at least once. They are passionate and have some awesome builds themselves.
I brought my Arrma Mojave 6S and Traxxas UDR for part installations, and I am beyond disappointed with the results. Despite being charged $260 for labor, the experience was a disaster from start to finish. First of all they took week and a half to do not even half of the job. Most of parts I provided were never actually installed, yet I was charged as if the work was completed. When I got my cars back, I noticed several parts and screws were missing so now I have to order them. Paying $260 to have my vehicles returned in worse mechanical shape than when I dropped them off is daylight robbery.I expected professional-grade service from a “performance” hobby shop, but instead, I received careless work that shows a total lack of respect for the customer’s equipment. I will not be returning and would advise others to double-check their work before leaving the shop.
This is a fantastic hobby shop!
I’m just getting into RC as a hobby and this place has been so helpful along the way.
From the moment Bruce sold me my first car, they have given me so much good advice and given me invaluable tips and tricks to get me started. They also showed my nephew around so he could pick out something that would work for him.
Any time I have some crash damage (I’m a beginner driver after all) they seem to have a $4 part in stock to get me back on the track, or they can show me how to fix whatever I’ve done. They even soldered a wire back on for me and showed me how to do it myself next time.
I bought a charger that had a bad fan in it and they swapped it out for a new one right on the spot. A+ customer service.
If you’re thinking about getting into RC, this is the place to go.
Really great customer service, staff are very knowledgeable, very approachable and obviously enjoy the hobbies sold there. It’s a store you want to support whenever you can. It’s not a huge store, but has its own vibe and staff really accommodate your needs. Awesome place to spend money.
To start off Jake’s appears to have a lot of product in stock, but really they just have a few different selections of vehicles.. I’ve been on and off in this hobby for 10+ years recently just got back into it a couple years ago and every time I go into Jake’s they don’t have what I’m looking for. I have very common RC brands and models. if they take your number down, they don’t call you with an update on anything. They say they’ll look for parts or they’ll order you something and they never get back to you. They don’t have common things in stock Like tools or a simple as 5 mm wheel nuts I don’t know what all the product is on the shelf but it seems like it. It’s the same stuff that’s been there for 10 years. Again tonight, I asked them about a particular size RC car that they have in stock and if Other bodies of the same brand size fit their answer was well anything you can make fit Well, that’s Not what I was asking I was interested in purchasing one if I knew if their other bodies would fit. Again, they lost their business to me tonight they didn’t ask what I was looking for or if they can order in what I was looking for they just let me walk out the door with no answer answered questions I am very upset that pandemonium closed because they had what I was looking for and they were very knowledgeable and wanted to help. Jake’s being the only hobby shop in the area you would think they would have more drive to sell to customers, but it looks like it’s just a store for all their buddies to shop Every time a good friend comes in they drop what they’re doing and just talk to them I have given Jake’s many opportunities to take my money and it just seems like they’re not willing to or they try to get me into something completely different than what I’m looking for. It’s like what is this A car dealership?? last time I was in there, they were trying to convince me to buy a flat track RC car that’s $1000 and I was talking about miniature crawling…….
