My parents and I stopped here for lunch and had a great experience. We ordered the clam pizza and the paella, and both were really good. The clam pizza was bigger than we expected and was plenty for the three of us to share.
The restaurant has a cozy feel and a nice view overlooking the water with both indoor and outdoor seatings. Most of all, the service was excellent. There’s also a large parking lot, so parking was easy. We’d definitely come back the next time we’re in Bodega Bay.

Best clam chowder I had. Great pizza too. Among coastal restaurants options this restaurant stood out.

Gourmet au Bay – A Hidden Gem on the Bay
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Gourmet au Bay, and it quickly earned a spot on my list of favorite local restaurants. From the moment I walked in, the warm and inviting atmosphere made me feel right at home. Owner Brian greeted me with a genuinely friendly smile and a hearty welcome that set the tone for the entire lunch. He has that perfect host vibe—chatty without being overbearing, and clearly passionate about his restaurant and the food they serve.
The menu is full of creative, coastal-inspired dishes, but the star of the show for me was the Smoked Clam Pizza. It’s unlike anything I’ve had before—imagine all the comforting flavors of a creamy New England clam chowder transformed onto a perfectly crisp, wood-fired crust. The smoked clams bring a rich, savory depth, balanced by the right amount of cheese, herbs, and just a hint of heat. Every bite was indulgent and satisfying. It’s the kind of dish you keep thinking about days later.
I also have to give high praise to their excellent local wine selections. Brian personally recommended a couple of bottles from nearby vineyards, and both were spot-on pairings for the seafood-heavy menu. The wines were well-curated, reasonably priced, and highlighted some real gems from the region that I wouldn’t have discovered on my own.
Service was attentive and knowledgeable throughout, the portions were generous, and the whole experience felt like a special lunch out without being pretentious. If you’re in the area, do yourself a favor and stop by Gourmet au Bay.

We always look forward to a delicious lunch on our frequent visits to Bodega Bay. This year was a major disappointment. They have a new chef and the food was unbelievably awful. Last year my husband and I agreed they had the best clam chowder we had ever tasted. This year it tasted like watery milk with a few clams. Bland and disgusting. Last year we couldn’t stop ordering the grilled oysters, which came out hot and incredibly flavorful. They were room temp and had a little vinegar added to the oyster liquor this time. We also tried the cauliflower, which was soggy and the “sauce” was straight sour cream with a little paprika sprinkled on top. The crab sandwich was also room temp with stale bread and super bland. The server was great and explained the cook was new. You would think the owner would have trained the “chef” to duplicate the wonderful recipes which made this such a good restaurant. We won’t be returning.

This place is amazing…good food, great location, and awesome service. The crab cakes are to die for and along with their incredible wine selection, makes this a perfect place to visit. If Marissa is working the bar, you’ll have even more fun as her personality adds to the incredible experience.
