Staying in area overnight and this was closest food option to motel. Cashier at counter friendly, and we both ordered the chicken fajita special. The place was more of a taqueria we are use to, as you order at counter and they bring you out the food. Chips were good, with salsa containers kind of small. Wife liked fajitas more than I, felt chicken had little flavor until soaked with salsa, but there was plenty, cooked with grilled onions and bell peppers. Plate included tortillas, rice, and refried beans. We saw the locals ordering their house tacos, we decided it was probably what they are known for. Staff was friendly, and prices were not out of line for what we got.

Just went to El Zarrape for the first time and we LOVED it. The restaurant is spacious, clean and peaceful. We loved sitting on the patio full of lovely plants. The service was excellent, friendly, quick and the food was delicious. We will definitely be back!

Great chow, great help, acceptable facilities with a large, shaded outdoor patio. Counter service, Pepsi fountain with a generous selection of bottled beers, Mexican & American. Unusual items but no cacti, no grasshoppers, or other exotic selections. But you climbed the hill, you found the place, now you’re looking at the menu: it all looks wonderful, too wonderful to decide . . . I’ll spare you the trouble! When AT the Zarape ORDER the Zarape combo, numero 17, two zarape tacos. They come with the shredded beef, onions, lemon wedges and a generous, flavorful consume. Perfecto!
When La Cabaña closed we
committed ourselves to visiting every Mexican food place in & around Redding. But we keep coming back here instead because it’s so darn tasty.

I spent the night in the city on my way back to So Cal. When I arrived I realized I had been there the last time, 7 years ago! I was so happy to go back because I remember it being delicious. It did not disappoint. I got the Zarape tacos and boy oh boy so I recommend! Its basically a quesa-birria taco. Yummmm! Everyone else loved their food. The burritos are a great size for the price. You get free chips and salsa and friendly faces. Definitely saving this place so I can INTENTIONALLY make my way there again when I’m in the area. 10 out of 10 recommend. Delicious food and the name isn’t lying – it has authentic flavors.
