Ignore most of the negative reviews. This guy is an excellent doctor! Many of the reviews that led to a mediocre rating were written many years ago and mentioned poor service by staff, and they probably are no longer relevant. I have never had anything less than a professional, courteous and prompt experience at his office.

Moreover, Dr. Markoff himself is intelligent, competent and personable. The referrals he has given me have always led to other outstanding medical professionals. I believe he and his office must have improved over time because I can’t even imagine how some of these reviews from years ago are possibly relevant today.

I am a former Kaiser patient, and the care at Providence and with Dr. Markoff has been leagues above what I recived before changing providers.

dr. Markoff and the entire staff at the offices at Providence Suite 303 are some of the best in the business of healthcare. Dr. Markoff is attentive, professional, and if I dare say quite charming. I’m a married male 59 years old living in Santa Rosa and I’ve been seeing Dr. Markoff for the past seven years every office visit which is mainly just yearly check-in and prescription refill advice has been entertaining and worthwhile. Highly recommend Dr. Markoff you’re choosing a new primary care physician, He has extensive knowledge for sports related issues but I couldn’t have asked for a better primary physician and Dr. Markoff. Special shout out goes to Adrian office nurse and Diana Colonoscopy and referral specialist.

I was a patient of Dr. Markoff’s for many years. The following is a partial recitation of my experience. He’s always had weird quirks, a touch of sarcasm and an argumentative nature. He argues with everything, not to be confused with a polite difference of opinion. His condescending attitude is uncomfortable and not conducive for a patient such as myself to want to engage in conversations or ask questions.

I decided not to take something he prescribed because one of the side effects was death, which I read on the paperwork that came with the medication. When I told him this, he told me it’s not true and that I shouldn’t read. So I shook my head, rolled my eyes and said yes it is true, it’s on the paperwork from the pharmacy. I started reading when I was about 5 years old and it stuck. Never in my life has anyone told me not to read. I continue to read and research regardless of his recommendation that I not read. The bottom line regarding prescribed medications and Dr. Markoff is that he either doesn’t know, doesn’t want to know or doesn’t want to discuss the side effects and when to take certain medications.

Approximately six months ago (I’m writing this on June 1, 2023), I was discussing a change in one of my medications and he told me that he was” not the right one to talk to about that”. What? The prescribing doctor who has been prescribing this medication to me for years, is not the right one to talk to? So I added this concern to my list of topics that I planned on discussing with a new PCP. A few months later, the appointment with a possible new PCP was canceled. So I decided to make an appointment with another provider in the same group as Dr. Markoff. I have seen her before and it seemed like a good option since I didn’t know who else I should go to for this specific problem. The appointment went well, we had a good conversation and she was supportive of my request. I felt good when I left, not a feeling I was familiar with after seeing Dr. Markoff. I asked the office manager if I could switch to her and she flatly said no. I asked her why and she sort of stuttered out a response about a possible problem regarding refill requests. So I told her that didn’t make sense and wasn’t as issue for me. She stammered and stuttered a bit more and said something like, we just don’t do that. A flat out no. Horrible customer service (her name begin with an L). I even went so far as to contact the Providence customer service department and the rep that I spoke with said she had never heard of anything like that.

Over the last couple of years I have had the need to consult with a knee surgeon, a shoulder surgeon, an ophthalmologist and a couple of other specialists. When I reflected on those visits compared to my typical visit with Dr. Markoff, I thought, wow that’s how it’s supposed to be. A doctor who is pleasant, not sarcastic. A doctor who pays attention and listens, not one who dismisses what the patient is saying. A doctor who is respectful, not condescending. Since I had already been considering switching to another PCP, these experiences combined with the fact that Dr. Markoff said he was “not the right one to talk to about that”, helped to make the decision easy. Then after he learned that I saw one of his associates, he made derogatory comments about me in the online my chart system. Unbelievable. What did he think that I would do since, one more time, he said he was “not the right one to talk to about that”? I know I keep on repeating it, it’s incomprehensible that he thought I would not take him at his word and actually consult with someone else.

Now that I have had a few visits with a new provider, it should be noted that my new provider spends a substantial amount of time with me, close to 30 minutes. In comparison, Dr. Markoff is like a robot being operated by a stop watch. Often times, he would abruptly end the visit, even in the middle of a conversation. Like, oops, his timer went off and now he’s off to the next appointment without having completed my appointment.

Dr. Markoff and his staff have been kind and concerned about my health. Dr. Markoff won’t tell you what you want to hear, but in a professional way tell you what you and he have to do to improve your health. Insofar as his staff being rude, nothing could be further from the truth. They are efficient and always act in a professional manner. I have never seen them act in a manner described by some others. If you need a good Primary Care physician, make an appointment with Dr. Markoff.

My husband waited two months to get an appointment in Dr Markoffs office and then when the day came the receptionist said his appointment was for two days prior. They were unwilling to reschedule him and said he had a no show note on his file. She was rude and very unhelpful . The most frustrating part is that the error may have occurred on there end yet they were unwilling to even try to reschedule us. This is not a family friendly office in my opinion.

To top off my horrible experience I just received a bill from this office for a missed appointment that was their fault. I have never been treated so poorly by a business before.
