We had an incredible stay at the Lost Whale Inn. I will recommend it to anyone who is in northern California, especially if they want to visit the redwoods from there! There are quite a few restaurants right down the road as well. The view from the hotel itself is incredible and the rooms were so clean and cozy. The hot tub and beverages provided were so nice. We thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast, which was so fresh and easily some of the best breakfast we’ve ever had.

This B&B is exceptional because of it’s location. It’s less than 20 miles south of the Redwood National Forest, which was our reason for staying in the area. The home sits on the shoreline of the Pacific Ocean and has a pathway that leads down to the shore, which is private. You can hear the sea lions from the home and it was fun to try to get closer to them. Both evenings that we were at the B&B, there was a charcuterie board for us, which was nice. Breakfast each morning is served buffet style, which is different for a B&B, but worked out nicely. The food was good.
The reason that I can’t rate the B&B any higher is the condition of the rooms. For $350 a night, we really expected more. We’ve stayed at a lot of Bed and Breakfast establishments when we travel. This is a beautiful home, but dated. Our room was small, which was fine, but it felt like we were stayed at a distant relative’s house with no real updates. This would be worth the $350 with some updates to the rooms, at least the one that we stayed in. The pictures show the lack of effort in detail and upkeep.

Our stay was incredible. The grounds are like a botanical garden. The beach path is private and the entire beach wild and isolated. Every evening we had a charcuterie plate and wine waiting for us. The fire is lit inside and out. With everything you needs for s’mores in a basket for you. Fresh made cookies every night too Every room has a beautiful view of the ocean and a huge rock of seals and sea lions greet you all day long- but not loud enough to be annoying.
So peaceful and so close to everything.
The best breakfast I have ever had! I’m on the waitlist for their own cookbook. I was sorry to leave and can’t wait to go back.

The service at this place is fantastic. Everyone is very inviting and accommodating. Checking in I told them about a dietary restriction just hoping to know what was in each dish so I would know what to avoid. Instead they made me specially tweaked versions of the same dishes that I could eat.
Also Bosco the cat is very cuddling. A wonderful partner for morning coffee.
The views are also fantastic. They have done a remarkable job of cultivating the greenery on their property to create natural feeling alcoves. You could easily forget anyone else was staying at the inn.

We adored the Lost Whale Inn! The views, the rooms and food was perfect. We stayed in the Sea Lion Room. I loved it. Four poster bed looking out a window directly at the ocean. Sunsets, full moons and a rock full of sea lions in full views from your bed. What more do you want!. The breakfast every morning was warm and scrumptious and so many choices of good thing, that I tried each one and found everyone of the choices yummy!!!! Brian, Tiffany were wonderful hosts and the rest of their staff was just as sweet and accommodating. Happy Hour was perfect end to a long day of hiking in the beautiful Redwoods. Which by the way the Redwoods should be a must see on your bucket list. They were as amazing and wonderous to me as the Grand Canyon. The grounds that the Inn sits on is just a beautiful garden with little delights of color in every corner. Oh did I mention that provided a double rainbow the morning were leaving. Now that’s what I all service 🙂
