The Good: The hotel staff was friendly and welcoming. The room was clean and ready for us when we arrived. It was very apparent that they had taken steps to update the room as best as they could with new TV, proper bedside outlets, and dispensers for the bathroom and showers. The restroom is a bit crowded as you can see in my photos with the toilet only a couple inches from the tub/shower, but it wasn’t uncomfortable or difficult to use. The motel is right on the freeway, but the room was nearly silent even with the freeway traffic. There was also direct access to the ocean along well-worn paths. The room also had a microwave and fridge to make leftovers a feasible option. Most importantly, the bed was extremely comfortable and firm, and I was able to get to sleep fairly quickly. Also, the room was wonderfully dark. Light in the room is always a problem for me, but I found the room to be pleasantly dark once all the lights were off.
The Bad: The only issue I felt needed to be addressed, was a sliding-door lock. I really wanted to keep my sliding door open so that I could listen to the ocean and enjoy the fresh, clean ocean air, but I was concerned about leaving the sliding door unsecured. Even a stick that could be dropped in the track to prevent the door from being slid open would have been better than nothing.
The Ugly: There was nothing that would prevent me from staying here again.
We stayed here for two nights for our honeymoon with our dog. Our favorite part was how pet friendly this hotel is! The Whirlpool Tub Room (Pet friendly) was spacious for us and clean. No lingering odors of previous pets. The paved walkway was the perfect morning and evening walk route. The hotel location was excellent for all of our sight seeing around Mendocino and Fort Bragg. Customer service was so friendly and professional.
Great Hotel and walking distance to other foods and shops. The hotel has a multiple of rooms with different needs that are being catered to they even have a room with access to a small fenced off yard if you want to take your dogs and a dog park! Staff is great and you get a beautiful access/view of the beach.
I really enjoyed my stay at this motel. To compare, the rooms were very comfortable and clean. The customer service was fantastic! The hotel offers Keurig coffee, coffee in the lobby, and is perfectly located right along the beach trail. It’s an easy paved walk where you can decide to stay on or walk the headlands or rent a bike. At night, you can roast marshmallows at sunset in one of their propane fire pits. Additionally, it is close to iconic spots like the city of Mendocino, Mendocino Botanical Gardens, Skunk Train, and MacKerricher State Park. Keep in mind, this hotel relies on coastal weather; while they have a heater, they do not have air conditioning. Just open your window or ask for a fan.
We had a nice stay at the Beachcomber Motel, and overall it’s a pleasant place with a great oceanfront location.
I called ahead knowing we would likely arrive late, and Cody at the front desk was absolutely wonderful. She made sure everything was set up for us, secured our room, gave us a discount coupon for a nearby restaurant, and even provided a printed list of local places to visit and eat. After a long travel day, that extra effort meant a lot — everything was already done for us, and we didn’t have to figure anything out.
The room was nice, and the view of the ocean from our balcony was beautiful. The property has a charming coastal feel and is very well located.
That said, for the price (close to $300 per night), there were a couple of disappointments. The shampoo dispenser in the shower was empty, which is something you wouldn’t expect at that price point. Luckily, I had brought my own. It was also quite noisy early in the morning, with doors slamming throughout the building, which made sleeping in difficult.
Because of those issues, I’m taking off one star. That said, I really did like the place overall. A big thank you to Cody for going the extra mile — her customer service truly stood out. With a little more attention to room details, this could easily be a five-star stay.
