It was my 1st time visiting this place last week so it was kinda intimidating at first since I wasn’t sure if you treat it like a cafeteria line or just go to sections of what tacos you want. Well I messed up but recovered quickly it’s not cafeteria style.
Now the tacos …the meat selections were on point. I tried the Al pastor, carne asada, Cabeza and lengua. All of these I highly recommend for everyone to try, just really good flavor and cooked to perfection. Especially the Cabeza and lengua it reminds me of home. As I was line I noticed they also make the tortillas in house so that was really exciting and the tortillas had great texture and flavor too. I didnt see a sign stating if you are allowed to buy a stack of tortillas so im going to ask next time to see if I am allowed too. Those tortillas were really good. I’m just a sucker for anything homemade. I would recommend getting there early because it gets pretty busy but the wait isn’t very long. Also there is no seating so be mentally prepared to eating these tacos standing up or in a squating position.

Taco ’bout AMAZING! Tacos El Gordo serves some of the best street tacos around! The meat is juicy, tender, and packed with incredible flavor in every bite. The aroma alone is enough to make your mouth water, and once you take that first bite, WOW! Everything comes together beautifully for an authentic street taco experience that keeps you coming back for more. If you’re a taco lover, this place is an absolute must-try!

Tacos El Gordo is an iconic Tijuana-style taquería famous for its authentic street tacos, handmade corn tortillas, and high-energy cafeteria-style setup. Originating in Tijuana before making a splash in San Diego and the Las Vegas Strip, it has built a cult-like following for bringing uncompromising border-style street food north.

    Atmosphere & Ordering
The restaurant uses a unique multi-line ordering system where each meat station has its own designated line and taquero. You queue up for the specific protein you want, watch the taquero carve or chop your meat fresh, receive your food, and then take your tray to the central cashier to pay before finding a table. While the system can feel fast-paced and chaotic during peak hours, it ensures every taco is served piping hot.

    Menu Highlights

    Adobada Tacos:
The undisputed star of the menu. Spiced pork is roasted on a vertical trompo, sliced thin, and served with a dollop of creamy guacamole and cilantro sauce.

    Carne Asada:
Grilled over open flames for a smoky flavor, served with diced onions, fresh cilantro, and house-made salsa.

    Specialty Meats:
For traditional enthusiasts, options like lengua (tender beef tongue), cabeza (beef head), and tripas (crispy beef tripe) are rich and flavorful.

    Mulas & Loaded Fries:
Quesadilla-like mulas packed with melted cheese and meat offer a crispier alternative to tacos, while loaded carne asada fries provide a massive portion suitable for sharing.

    Final Verdict
Tacos El Gordo delivers an authentic taquería experience with bold flavors and incredible meat preparation, though long lines and higher prices at busy resort locations can test your patience. If you visit outside of peak rush hours and stick to their famous adobada, it is well worth the wait.

Tacos El Gordo absolutely lived up to the hype. From the moment you step inside, the fast-paced ordering process is part of the experience. The line moves quickly, and it’s incredible to watch the team work together as they assemble each taco with speed and precision.

The tacos were outstanding—fresh, flavorful, and worth every minute of the wait. You can tell they’ve perfected what they do.

If you’re visiting the area, this is a must-stop. Great food, an awesome atmosphere, and one of the coolest taco experiences you’ll find. We’ll definitely be back.

EAT HERE!!! My Lyft driver told me about this place. A little research confirmed it is legit. The food…OMG!

It’s a little intimidating at first, but the super helpful security guard/host explained. And all the cooks were patient with newbies.

The spicy pork taco is their famous dish – and it was good! I also had the steak and the chorizo tacos – excellent.

If it looks like there is a line, it moves fast.

I might not ever be able to eat another taco. SO GOOD!!!

I ordered mine to go so I could go back to my hotel room and drink wine and watch basketball. The food traveled well and was still delicious.
