A beautiful walk from the parking lot down to the lighthouse. A fully working lighthouse that was pretty amazing.
Besides the amazing views the light housekeepers residents/museum was pretty amazing to see the old style phone and washboard and a real timepiece.
Highly recommended.
Scenic area with beautiful views of the ocean and Point Cabrillo Light Station. There are two paths (roughly 15-20 minutes) to get to the lighthouse: a paved path and an unimproved hiking trail. Both were nice, though my preference was for the hiking trail in terms of the more scenic path. There is a historic museum onsite, along with older houses and buildings of importance in the earlier history of the lighthouse. There is also a well kept restroom behind the museum building.
To climb to the top of the lighthouse, the Coast Guard must be present, and there are scheduled dates in which this occurs. Check their site for dates. It was a bit disappointing to miss it, but still glad I went! Good visit overall.
Absolutely gorgeous grounds. The half mile walk downhill from the parking lot to the lighthouse tower is really lovely. Very tidy and nicely arranged gift store. So incredible to see the active 3rd order fresnel lens. Beautiful museum area in the keepers home, incredible experience to see original belongings from the keepers. Really amazing experience.
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL the best trails. The ocean views are absolutely breathtaking. Theres a good chance of seeing everything from amazing birds to seals seal lions whales if its the right time of year and on occasion even a dolphin or 2 hands down 1 of my FAVORITE places to explore on the Mendocino coast get my steps in and enjoy the Ocean Therapy because thats exactly what it is. Explore the light house check out the ocean marine spot. It always has clean bathrooms and the light house gift shop has fantastic souvenirs along with snacks.
Nice walk 15 minute from the car park. Well maintained working lighthouse. It has a small educational museum with an aquarium of local species. The museum also Informs visitors of wildlife such as birds, sealions and mammals in the area and the effects of washed up plastics etc. The air is fresh and clean away from street pollution. They also have a small gift shop within the lighthouse building that has some lovelyitems for sale.. A nice day in nature but beware of childrens safely at the cliff edges.
