Nello’s never disappoints ! We used to go here more often when we lived in Redding, but now it’s whenever we come into town and family. Because the staff treat you so well, even when you drop in on just a casual dining affair, it feels like a special occasion. They still give each lady a rose on their way out. Super classy and old school cool. Nello’s Place is a northern Ca institution. Everyone knows Nello’s Place. Myself nor anyone I know have EVER had anything but an excellent meal here, no matter the dish. The more budget friendly “specials” are excellent as well. I’ve had the New York special numerous times. Basically, order anything and you will be extremely happy. The waiters wear vests and ties, the restaurant is not dark, but leaning more toward dimly lit. I love it. You can almost envision the rat pack or other cool icons of the day hanging here, calling the staff by their names. It’s got that cool kind of vibe. If you have a party of 5 or more, I’d suggest making a reservation. This place fills up quick, especially on the weekends !!!

Lovely place! Great service, and very yummy food. Such a great place for a special occasion or date night. Perfect ambiance with dim lighting and soft music playing.

Nelo’s Italian Restaurant in Redding was an absolute delight. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt warm, welcoming, and authentically Italian. The service was attentive without being overbearing, and every dish that came to the table looked and smelled incredible.
I ordered the tortellini pesto, and it was outstanding. The tortellini was perfectly cooked, tender, and filled with rich flavor, while the pesto sauce was fresh, vibrant, and beautifully balanced with just the right amount of garlic and parmesan. It was one of those dishes where every bite makes you want the next one immediately.
My wife chose the chicken piccata, and it was equally impressive. The chicken was cooked perfectly—juicy, tender, and flavorful—topped with a bright, buttery lemon caper sauce that had the perfect balance of tanginess and richness. It was elegant comfort food at its finest.
What really made the experience special was how everything felt homemade and thoughtfully prepared. Nelo’s clearly takes pride in quality ingredients and classic Italian cooking done right. If you’re in Redding and looking for an exceptional meal, this is the kind of place you’ll want to come back to again and again. Highly recommended.

Just went on Nov. 28, 2025. I’m a bit of a food snob as I literally enjoy all kinds of foods, have a good pallet, and know what fine dining is. Well let’s begin :
Pros: the atmosphere is nice, dim lighting for a romantic setting, clean tables, waiters dressed to impress, escargot tasted good/thick yummy sauce. Soup was tasty, mesquite filet 12oz was tasty!
Cons: table silverware was dirty upon sitting down, butter for bread ice cold can’t spread it – should of been left out 30 minutes before opening to make it soft & spreadable, escargot was luke warm & no garlic/butter bread (should serve it hot on plate should be hot). The odd tuna plate with salami /cheese & olives was out of place and made no sense with our dishes ordered. Does nothing for your pallet before your main course. It was a waste as we didn’t eat it. My filet 12oz was brought out not the temp I ordered. I noticed immediately as the waiter put the plate in front of me as you could see the meat wiggle alot! So I cut into it, and it was very very rare! Probably temp was 135. I ordered mine medium well temp 150/155. The waiter was close by and heard me tell my son it was cooked wrong. Waiter looked and immediately said it was way under done. Well he should of checked before bringing it to my table! Positive was he immediately tried to fix it, brought the owner out, and they cooked me a new steak. That one was delicious!! My hot totti was not made right – was Luke warm, no cinnamon stick, no lemon, and very little honey! Bummer. The other plate of spaghetti & meat balls was mediocre, meat balls had very little flavor. The chocolate suicide dessert was amazing. For 2 people it was $127.00. I expected much better tasting food, cleaner silverware, and better execution on cooking temps for this kinda price.

The Place That Sparked It All. This place is the place that got me started on my reviews. 11 years ago.
We came back to where it all began. Nello’s helped start the fire—so tonight wasn’t just dinner, it was a full-circle moment.
The bread? Soft and crisp.
The prosciutto and melon? A little gamey, but good.
The chicken piccata was lemony perfection.
The alfredo? Creamy, grilled just right—solid 4.5, maybe even 5.
Even the salad held its own.
The antipasto lost us with tuna juice bleeding across the plate.
Wine list wasn’t offered—we had to ask. They didn’t have my wife’s choice, subbed it with Cupcake Moscato, then charged $11 a glass for a $9 bottle.
But the service was otherwise tight.
Drinks never went dry.
Course progression? Elegant.
And just when we thought the old-school charm might carry it through…
The illusion fell when the check came.
Overall not too bad. Might go back may not who knows.
