What an incredible place! A must visit!!! We were at Palo Alto for 7 days. 5 days out of 7, we chose to go to Mazra for dinner. Omar, Berke, and Nora helped us on different days. Something with the people makes this place very special. They treat you like family!! Food is out of this world!!! You are missing so much if you haven’t tried Mazra.
Food did not disappoint. Flavors are well-balanced, prepared right and presented beautifully.
The place is always busy, so there are no reservations for parties less than 6. Wait at least an hour to be seated. And since it’s so busy, ordering food is through QR code, and you pack your own leftovers. That takes the fun out of ordering, asking questions about the menu, and dining altogether. Does the food make up for it? Absolutely.
However, for some, it could mean docking a few points off the dining experience.
We came here for late lunch around 2 PM and still had to wait about 30 minutes, so it was pretty packed. The atmosphere is great, though definitely a bit crowded. Aside from ordering, it’s mostly self-service since you grab your own water or tea. Ordering is done via QR code, but the servers were friendly and happy to explain the menu.
We started with the hummus and pita, which were both good. The fried halloumi was also nice, slightly crispy with a sweet contrast from the honey. The cauliflower was my favorite appetizer though, I think the roasted char added great depth, and it was tender with a slightly tangy sauce that complemented it really well.
For the mains, the rice was flavorful and the meats were generally tender and well-seasoned, especially the lamb. The lamb chops were just okay though nothing special, the portion felt a bit small for the price and I’d probably order a different main next time.
I absolutely loved the chicken shawarma plate; the meat was perfectly seasoned and had those crispy, caramelized edges from the spit that I always look for. I paired it with the grilled veggie bowl, which was surprisingly hearty and full of that signature mesquite char that makes Mazra’s grill work so distinct. To round out the meal, I had to try the Halloomi rolls—they are these incredibly crispy, golden-brown pastry rolls stuffed with savory fillings that provide the perfect crunch alongside the softer dips.
To wash it all down, I grabbed the banana date shake, and it was easily the highlight of the meal for me. It’s thick, naturally sweet from the dates, and doesn’t feel as heavy or artificial as a standard milkshake. Everything I ordered felt fresh and high-quality, though the portions were so generous that I ended up taking half of the shawarma home. If you’re going for the first time, that shake is a non-negotiable—it’s the perfect cooling balance to the spicy, smoky flavors of the grill.
