My family with 2 young kids (5yo and 3yo) greatly enjoyed our two-night stay at Little River Inn! We stayed in the historical inn in a room with two double beds and there was plenty of space for the family. We had views of the Pacific from our window, which were beautiful. We enjoyed the restaurant for breakfast and dinner, which both had great options for kids and adults. We walked around the grounds comfortably, chatted with a friendly worker at the golf shop, and even enjoyed the kid-friendly 0.5 mile hike down to Van Damme Beach. The Inn is a 5 minute drive to Mendocino and a shorter drive to the Van Damme State Park, where we enjoyed hiking the Fern Canyon Trail. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for a relaxing vacation! We hope to be back in the future.

We stayed in a Van Damme South unit, #242. The view is awesome, with a private hot tub outside & chairs to sit in on the deck. Inside there’s a jacuzzi tub, shower stall (very dated with ugly mold in the drain & inside the hinged door area) but the shower head is high for us 5’8” to 5’11” tall people, so that’s a plus. The hot water heats up fast and the pressure is nice, not super low. Gas fireplace in the room – heats up real nice. King bed is comfortable – pillows are questionable. They are fluffy down type pillows and there are 4-6 of them (1- extra are in the closet). Too bad they didn’t offer a couple of firmer types of pillows. The first night, the remote didn’t work, we couldn’t get into Netflix, only the cable tv channels. And during the night, the smoke alarm sounded for 15 seconds & then stopped. Don’t know what that was about. But the next day, the maintenance men quickly fixed those issues. The bathroom sink cupboards are very dated and the tile floor has cracks everywhere. The coffee/microwave cupboard is also very dated. And there aren’t any utensils. So you can heat something up, but nothing to eat it with. I got a small lasagna at the small store down the street, and discovered once back in the room that there’s nothing to eat it with. Fortunately I had extra supplies in my car, but if I hadn’t had those, I’d have to call the front desk & wait for someone to drive to my room to deliver it. The 3 big windows in the main room have mold around them. The front door and the door going out to the back deck, are not weatherproofed. You can see light outside in between door & frame. The porch light is very dim which makes it hard to see the key hole to unlock the door. And the light above the microwave area is also very dim. All in all, our stay was nice, but when you pay as much as you do for these rooms, you expect things to be nicer. Online, I was able to see the Margaret Bullard room, #259, which is 3 rooms to the left of the Van Damme South, and it is a beautiful updated room, nothing like the Van Damme South. Maybe it’s in their plans to update it in the future? Who knows.
