I had one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had at this Honda dealership.

I brought my vehicle in for what was supposed to be a minor repair involving a small trim piece. I initially agreed to the repair and was prepared to pay the quoted price. While waiting for my vehicle, I called several times for updates. Eventually, I was told the replacement part had arrived, but it was the wrong color and that I would have to have it painted myself. That made no sense to me. I’ve never had a dealership order a replacement part that didn’t match my vehicle and then expect me to arrange and pay for painting.

I decided to cancel the repair and pick up my car instead.

When I arrived, I found my vehicle in worse condition than when I dropped it off. When I questioned the damage, I was told by the service manager, Christine Fong, that the damaged part had already been “hanging by a thread” when I brought the car in.

What made this even more frustrating was that I was shown the dealership’s surveillance footage, which clearly showed me opening and closing the charging door normally when I arrived. Despite that, I was still told I was responsible for the damage.

I had been driving my vehicle every day for about two weeks before my appointment. If the part had truly been hanging by a thread, I have a hard time believing it would have survived normal daily driving.

I have since filed a complaint with Honda Consumer Affairs and will also be filing complaints with the California DMV and other appropriate agencies. I hope Honda takes this matter seriously because this experience left me feeling that my concerns were dismissed rather than addressed.

I encourage anyone bringing their vehicle here to carefully inspect it before and after service, ask questions, and keep detailed records of all communication.

I have never made an appointment a week in advance, only to be told we’re too backed up to look at your vehicle, because were busy on Saturday. Honda of Oakland is a total disappointment.

Never gonna be back here for the service. Rude customer service doesn’t care about your time. False commitments. 3 hours for an oil change. First they say 1 hour after that one more and one more now. Even if you have an appointment. DO NOT VISIT – 30000 miles and they say your transmission service is due. So ridiculous.

Just waited one more hour from 3pm to 4pm and they says one more hour wow this is a worst place to come for your oil change

The service department at Honda Oakland is completely broken.

The rear seat belt in my 2014 Civic completely jammed/locked up internally under normal ownership conditions (it’s a 2-person household, the back seat is virtually never used). When I called to ask about getting this critical safety component inspected under Honda’s structural/seat belt warranty guidelines, I was told I would be forced to pay a mandatory $300 diagnostic fee just for a technician to look at a failed safety restraint. I sent a written inquiry online to protest this fee, but they completely ignored it.

The real circus happened today. Honda Oakland called me directly to solicit standard maintenance on my vehicle. When I brought up the unresolved seat belt issue to the agent who called me, they said they had to transfer me. The second agent transferred me again. That final transfer dumped me straight into a broken, automated corporate menu. When I selected the “Service Department” option on their own menu, a recording stated the number was “out of service” and disconnected the call entirely.

To call a customer for a sales pitch, pass them around three times when they bring up a safety defect, and then dump them into a dead, out-of-service automated loop is an astonishing level of unprofessionalism. I will be escalating this directly to Honda Corporate Customer Relations and taking my business elsewhere. Avoid this service department.

Next time you all forget to bolt the skid plate to someone’s car just fix it. I waited 3 hours for someone to put two bolts in my car. Then when I finally got up to ask what was going on, I was gaslit and lied to about the cause of the problem. Unbeknownst to your staff, I actually have a lot of experience working on cars and was raised by car mechanics. I know that it’s a common mistake to forget so I was not rude (Even though I paid these people $568) until they tried to charge me. Hong Nong ended up fixing it for free but still tried to blame the unattached skid plate on me. Rather than list of a long laundry lists of why your employee was wrong, I just decided to leave but know I won’t ever be coming back.
