In the past, I have enjoyed camping at Gualala Redwood River campgrounds. Last weekend, we had multiple campsites for our annual family camping trip. My wife and I arrived on Thursday with our travel trailer and set up camp. On Friday, my son, daughter-in-law, and two granddaughters arrived and set up their rooftop tent on top of their Toyota 4Runner at our campsite. My 10-year-old granddaughter, who is a Girl Scout, asked me if she could set up a small tent in the corner for herself. I agreed, unaware that it was a violation at Gualala. In the morning, I woke up to find a yellow note on our vehicle stating that I was in violation and that I needed to come to the office. I went to the office, and they informed me that I owed them an additional $40 per night for the little tent that my granddaughter was sleeping in. We have camped with this same configuration at multiple campgrounds throughout California and have never been charged an extra fee. This is particularly upsetting because Gualala Redwood River camping fees are among the most expensive I have ever paid, and I feel that they prioritize profit over customer satisfaction. I had planned to return with the family group next year, but I will not do so due to this extra charge. I believe that the charge was very petty and wanted to express my dissatisfaction. Gualala allows 6 people per campsite and we were in compliance.

Amazing campground and facilities. If you enjoy solitude, nature and clean river water this place is for you! My family and I plan to be back soon!
