I had a truly awful experience at the Eureka Inn and will absolutely never return. We didn’t notice the issue immediately, but when I was finally about to go to sleep and uncovered the blanket, I smelled something incredibly disgusting. It became clear that someone had peed on the bed. The housekeeping staff did not clean it properly, and I honestly doubt they even changed the sheets before we checked in.
When I called the front desk to request fresh sheets, the woman working told me to call back in 30 minutes because she was busy with check-ins. I called back 30 minutes later, and the same lady told me to call back again in 10 minutes because she was still busy. By the time I called back a third time, it was already 11:00 PM and we needed to sleep. This time, a man answered the phone. He had absolutely no awareness of my previous calls and informed me that all housekeeping staff had left for the night.
His only solution was to hand me some clean sheets, meaning I had to change the bed entirely by myself late at night. Even after doing that, it barely helped because the mattress itself was completely soiled and dirty. Unacceptable service and zero regard for basic hygiene.
I stayed at this hotel for three nights and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience.
The biggest issue was that there was no hot water for my entire stay. I spoke with the front desk and asked if they could offer some type of partial refund or discount. I was told they could not refund any portion of my stay and would only offer Wyndham Rewards points, though I’m not a Wyndham Rewards member. That response felt dismissive and did nothing to resolve the problem.
To make matters worse, the hotel was undergoing construction during my stay. A large tarp outside repeatedly flapped loudly in the wind throughout the day and night, creating constant noise that made it difficult to relax.
The cleanliness was also unacceptable. There were obvious layers of dust under the bed, making me question how thoroughly the room had been cleaned before my arrival.
A hotel has a few basic responsibilities: provide a clean room, reliable hot water, and a reasonably comfortable environment for guests. This property failed on all three counts. Charging full price for a room without hot water for three consecutive nights while refusing to offer any partial refund is unacceptable customer service.
I cannot recommend staying here until these issues are addressed.
Historic hotel that has hosted Churchill, U.S. presidents back to Hoover, movie stars and me. Magnificent lobby with high ceiling, portraits of distinguished visitors, lots of big chairs and historic curiosities. Our room was big and comfortable and decorated as if it was 1930.
But there was almost no staff on hand, no restaurant and parking is a bit of a pain. The area around the hotel does not feel overly safe, especially having to park across the street and go in the back door of the building. The parking lot is fenced and gated after 10pm.
Breakfast was included but was a bit of a joke. Very small seating area. Pastries and Jimmy Dean croissants.
The hotel was very cute. The lobby was absolutely beautiful and I love that it had so much history represented. However the rooms were a bit small and dingy. You couldn’t control the AC or temperature but they were nice enough to get us a portable fan. The water in the shower took forever to get hot and the bathtub wouldn’t drain the water properly so you were just standing in a pool of water as you showered before it overflowed. We didn’t have enough towels so we called down and you have to go downstairs to get them yourself. Housekeeping doesn’t come in everyday to neaten up your area unless specially requested so keep that in mind. The walls are also very thin so I was able to hear every word of my neighbors conversation about their plans for the day lol. Cute place but would probably never stay again.
I stayed here Sept. ’25. Loved the ambience of this classic hotel. The look and feel are as authentic as you can get and the staff were extremely pleasant. While the room was very well maintained, the bathroom floor needed cleaning. Other than that, no complaints.
