I needed a room for my wife and myself short notice for our anniversary. Agate cove was very accommodating! I looked up the best price available on the web and was prepared to pay that amount, but I called and made the reservation and completely forgot to ask the price (not like me at all!) when I saw my credit card charge, it was $40 less than the lowest price I could find! Mind you, this is no flop house, these are very clean, well appointed luxury bungalos. When we arrived, we told a lady who was right there which room we had reserved. She looked at me and said, “oh we upgraded your room.” She gave me the new code and walked into a room that was about $100 more than what we paid. We were VERY impressed! We will definitely be back. This place is a GEM!
My husband and I returned to Agate Cove Inn for a 2 night stay after our 1st visit 16 yrs ago. We were met with recent changes of the Inn no longer offering breakfast service which we much enjoyed the convenience of during our 1st stay. The staff were very friendly and suggested their faves for breakfast and we did take their word. The Inn also offered complimentary wine tastings at Husch Winery and we also enjoyed the offering and were pleasantly surprised the winery also offered us a discount for purchases since we were staying at the Inn.
Something I really would like to mention is the welcoming cheerful hospitality and professionalism of the manager Steven Maldonado. During our stay we experienced a provider internet service outage the 2nd night of our stay. Steven was so diligent in his attempts to resolve that he stayed for a long period of time troubleshooting to clear the premise and making repeated calls to the provider. He also came to personally inform us that it didn’t look like it would be restored that evening. He was also back really early to get back to getting the issue resolved with the provider. We stepped into the office to check out and he said it had been resolved. I thanked him and told him he was so great through it all. He never lost his cheery disposition and welcoming charm during the experience.
We will definitely check for cottage availability when we come back to Mendocino to visit.
Pros: the room we stayed in, Emerald, had a fantastic view of the ocean and was very comfortable. The flowers on the grounds were gorgeous, the property is fantastic.
Cons:
1) I followed the instructions on the website to call if there was an issue with my credit (from a previous reservation), which there was. I must have called a dozen times and never got someone on the phone. I found myself wondering – why say “call” or even list a number if it is never answered? Fortunately I was able to resolve over e-mail, and these responses were also slow, typically a day later. Perhaps the service person was too busy answering phone calls. While we were there I noted that I never saw anyone at the front desk. For the pricetag, the service was overall abysmal.
2) No breakfast! I stayed at this place years ago (and loved it) and was looking forward to the breakfast, which evidently they discontinued just a month earlier. At their pricepoint, a nice breakfast should be included. Without it, it’s not a good value IMO. Also, there was nobody to ask for recommendations in the absence of a breakfast. Thank you ChatGPT.
Grounds are beautiful, view is breathtaking, their lobby/hangout spot is beautiful, their beds were comfortable, they promised home baked cookies but they were from a box, I wish they would change the description of that, their bathroom need some maintenance/remodel, broken tiles, moldy grout, rusted shower curtain and a new shower head would be a nice touch, I would stay again if bathrooms were to be remodeled.
Close to Mendocino but not safe to walk, there are no sidewalks on road
to leads to town but it’s a very short drive 2 minutes or so.
Stayed here in the only 2 bed room they have, hopefully the other rooms have better bathrooms
This is the second time I’ve stayed at the Agate Cove Inn, and it didn’t disappoint. My cottage was lovely, clean, and equipped with everything I could need. The staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was fresh and the dining room has gorgeous views. There’s an outdoor sitting area with a fire put that’s perfect for just relaxing. My only complaint is that breakfast service ends at 9:30—early for those of us who prefer to get up a bit later, but since it sounds like breakfast service will be ending soon anyway, that’s a nonissue for the future. Thanks for a great stay.
