I booked The David for a one-night stay in San Diego and was looking for a place that was nice and clean since I would literally just be there to sleep. Overall, the property is nice, and the check-in instructions were straightforward and easy to follow.
The lobby area was welcoming and well equipped, with complimentary coffee and a water refill station. My room was on the second floor. There is no elevator, so this is something to keep in mind for anyone who may need elevator access.

The rooms are compact but have everything you would need for a short stay. The bed was comfortable, and the room included bottled water, snacks, a TV, and a split AC unit. The bathroom was a good size and had great-quality products.

Unfortunately, there were a couple of things that took away from the overall experience. There was a noticeable damp smell when I first walked into the room that reminded me of mold. It may be related to the ventilation, as the system didn’t seem strong enough to properly air out the room. The room was also noticeably dusty, with dust on the walls, bed frame, lights, and other surfaces. For a property like this, I would expect the room to be cleaner, and this definitely took away from an otherwise pleasant stay.

Check-out was simple and easy. Everything is self-service, so there isn’t someone at the reception desk handling check-out, which is worth knowing if you prefer a more traditional hotel experience.

Overall, The David is a nice option for a short stay, with comfortable beds, thoughtful amenities, and an easy self-service experience. However, the damp smell and noticeable dustiness were disappointing and are areas that could definitely be improved.

I honestly really enjoyed my stay here. From the moment I arrived, the staff were so friendly and welcoming, which immediately made me feel comfortable. Check-in with Eugene at the gate was smooth, and the whole experience felt relaxed and easy. Very professional. The room was clean and cozy, and the bed was genuinely comfortable. After spending the day exploring San Diego, it was so nice to come back, relax, and get a good night’s sleep. What stood out to me most were the little things: ear plugs and sleep masks. The staff were attentive and always happy to help without ever making it feel like too much. The location was another big plus. It was convenient for getting around San Diego, so I could spend more time enjoying the city and less time worrying about transportation. Overall, it felt like one of those places where the people genuinely care about their guests.
