Great service from Westyn and the food was great, we had the all you can eat blue tier!

Exceptional nigiri and sashimi here. I love that the chefs only use a small amount of rice unlike most AYCE spots. The fish was all really fresh, try the salmon belly, Cajun options torched and super white tuna. The half rolls we ordered were also good. Service was quick even on a Friday night and we left stuffed with a mochi ice cream to go. New favorite sushi buffet.

What impressed me most about Pier 50 Sushi Bar in Davis is how they handle this much volume while keeping the fish so fresh. We tried nearly everything, and the rolls were a standout! The sashimi was surprisingly fresh, the sides were delicious, and everything arrived beautifully presented and so quickly. The freshness, variety, and speed together are what make this place worth coming back to.

The dark booths and little table lights give it a cozy feel. The all-you-can-eat menu has three courses: A includes blue items, B adds green, and C adds gold. Everyone at the table chooses the same course, which I actually loved because it encouraged us to explore beyond our usual orders. My advice: order a little at a time so you can try more without wasting food.

Massive shout-out to Wilson! We had a flight to catch, and he patiently answered all my questions, helping us enjoy as much as possible without overordering. So attentive, so quick, and such a fun experience. I would absolutely return for those rolls and fresh sashimi, preferably without a plane to catch!

Overall, I had a positive experience here; however, it felt a little bumpy in the beginning. I think it’s a totally fine AYCE sushi experience, but perhaps not as family friendly as other options in town.

    Cost Breakdown
Similar to their other restaurants, the menu is split into 3 options: Option A, $36, for basically rolls and cooked items; Option B, $46, Option A + nigri, sashimi, and some select items; and Option C, $58, for Option A + B + some select exclusive items like sweet shrimp, sea urchin, toro, etc.

    Rules
There are a lot of qualifying rules, some printed on the menu, some not. It would be great if these were communicated on the website or up-front in front of the store before you sit down.

First, children 0-3 are free; however, they are limited to the “basic” menu. This is fine; however, children over 3 can only eat from the “A” menu. This may be confusing when you have adults eating Option B or C. It just makes for a slightly disjointed eating experience and anyone with kids knows that kids may feel excluded or badly. Again, I think it’s a totally defensible rule, it just may cause some unhappiness with the kids (or your wallet if you’re bumping a young child up to Option B).

Second, for nigiri and sashimi, you’re limited to: (1) 10 orders of nigiri or sashimi AND (2) 5 types of seafood per round. We had 4 adults in our party and each order of nigiri is two pieces. So, in our party of 4 adults, each person got to have one piece of each type of nigiri per round. I could see this causing more issues in a bigger group, for example, if you had a group of 5, then one person isn’t able to have one of each of the fish. While services was friendly and our waiter attended to us quickly, turn around time from order to fish on our table was pretty slow. The limit plus the slow-ish time to bring out the fish was just not a great combo.

    Quality
Enough with the bad, the fish quality was excellent. The rice to fish ratio on the nigiri was very generous and excellently portioned. The cooked items were also very good (although we didn’t order too many). Nothing more to say here, you won’t be dissapointed.

    Variety
They have a lot of variety. Multiple types of salmon and tuna nigiri. Their dressings/toppings were light and tasteful, they did not drown out the flavor of the fish. Nothing to complain about here.

    Service
Service was very attentive and friendly. The music (touched on later) was a little loud for our 3 year old and the staff turned it down. That was very much appreciated and I understand that the louder music was part of the vibe so I would not have been offended if they could not turn it down. But it was a very nice gesture on their aprt.

    Ambiance
For what it is, I think the ambiance was mostly good. It was kind of dark and the Option A and Option B on the menu were pretty hard to distinguish. Option A is Dark Blue and Option B is Dark Green. With the dim lighting, it was pretty difficult for everyone at the table to figure distinguish. You have to put the menu directly under the small table lamp to really see (you can check it out in the picture). They are currently not using the outdoor space, but maybe that could be a more family friendly space in the future.

    Kids
I would say this is probably not a child-friendly restaurant for younger kids (younger than 6?). And probably OK for kids older than 6. The music wasn’t obnoxiously loud, but it was loud. The lighting was pretty dim as well. I think this fits well for people without kids, but it just wasn’t ideal for those with kids.

Loved what they did with the inside of this space! Glad I opted for course B, which included the yuzu rock shrimp, Monica roll, salmon belly nigiri, and salmon collar, all of which were phenomenal. $50 is definitely a splurge, but we felt as though it was worth the cost. The service was great despite it being opening night. My only hope for the future: utilize the outside space!!! Currently it’s just a place for people to wait during busy hours, but hopefully it can be used for an outside bar/lounge area in the future!
