Stopped in on a work trip and got dinner. Bartenders make some fantastic cocktails and are very friendly, and the mixed seafood plate was perfectly cooked. Good portions, all around a great experience!

Great time hanging out in Redwood City, honestly, the location is amazing and the vibe is there. That said, there were a few misses that stood out, especially with the cocktails.

We’ve been to their Union City location and absolutely loved the drinks, so I came in expecting that same consistency since it’s the same menu. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.

For example, the Sails of Passion in Union City comes in a rocks glass with a nice red color, slightly tart and really well balanced. In Redwood City, it came out in a tall Collins glass, yellow in color, and tasted overly sweet, almost like straight passion fruit purée.

I’m also a big fan of a good Smokey Old Fashioned, and this one missed the mark. When they smoked the glass, the cherry stick was sticking out above the rim, so there was no real seal to trap the smoke. On top of that, the pour didn’t even reach halfway up the large ice cube, which makes me think either the measurement was off or the drink was too concentrated. An Old Fashioned should have a bit more body to it.

This place has the potential to be a go-to spot just based on drinks alone, but the execution on the bar side needs some tightening up.

Food-wise, I usually love their ceviche, but this time it didn’t taste as fresh as what I’ve had at the Union City location. On the flip side, the sashimi scallops were delicious, and the Monday night happy hour is a great deal—half-off grilled oysters is a win. The sriracha bourbon oysters were a standout for me.

For anyone who follows my content, you know I’m a bit of a foodie and used to bartend, so I might be a little picky when it comes to drinks. Still, I’m rooting for this spot because the foundation is there—it just needs a bit more consistency behind the bar.
