Favorite sushi on the peninsula. Great quality food prepared quickly, and amazing staff and service all at a great price! I didn’t catch our servers name as we were kind of a large group, but she was extremely kind and made sure we were well taken care of. This is my second time here and the first experience was just as good. Highly recommend eating here if you love great sushi and great service!
MJ’s is me and my friends go to dinner spot in the Peninsula! The cuts of fish are always fresh and buttery, the hand rolls are generously packed, and the price is unbeatable! The value for the quality is honestly hard to beat. The chef(s) are so talented as well, making sure each bit is perfect, and also being able to prepare exceptional plates exceptionally quick! Being able to go for a quality delicious, but fast meal in a hectic day is such a privilege.
Both the front and back of house staff are genuinely so kind and welcoming and they keep us coming back for more than just great food. Most especially, our usual server, Tabo, who always greets, makes sure we’re well taken care of, and remembers our regular orders. Truly worth checking out if you are ever in the Foster City area!
Update: Tabo recommended us to try their karaage — mind blowing-ly juicy and succulent. Genuinely some of the best I have ever had, our complements to the Chef. Will be adding this to our go-to orders.
First of all .. lots of parking!
I got in just the right time at around 6pm on a Saturday night , ordered and people started coming in!
My first time here. I had the regular chirashi … Large serving and fish was fresh!! Will be a good stop if I am back in the area!
We are longtime customers of this restaurant, so it’s disappointing to see how things have changed under the new management. Our latest visit felt like a clear downgrade in both quality and value.
The portions across our dishes were smaller than on previous visits, even though prices haven’t changed. The biggest letdown was the deluxe chirashi and sashimi set, which we order every time. This time, the fish slices were significantly thinner, and the chirashi came with far less rice than what we’ve consistently received before.
Here are photos comparing this visit to ones from the last couple of months to clearly show the difference in portions and presentation. (Black plates are recent visit, blue plates are previous visits)
We used to recommend this place to others, but after this visit, we’re not sure we can anymore.
One of the most average sushi places I’ve ever been to. MJ Sushi is not stellar nor horrible, just plain average.
First, the negatives. The atmosphere is pretty lacking. It’s clean, and you can tell it’s a sushi place, but other than that, it has a basic modern restaurant look. In addition, the quality of the dishes were inconsistent. My sashimi was fresh, but my Mom said her tuna rolls were warm, as if they’ve been sitting out, and simply didn’t taste good. She couldn’t finish them and had to bring them home.
As for the positives, there is a lot of space. There were plenty of open tables, and I bet they could fit more if they wanted to. Therefore, there was no wait to be seated. The employees were also polite and quick with our orders. One gimmick I found interesting was the small cups of free ice cream they gave out to every table. Them being open on a late 4th of July evening was also a plus, since every other place we wanted to go to was closed at that time. That’s the only reason why tried this place out, honestly.
Overall, I wouldn’t want to come again, but I wouldn’t hate it if I had to. 3/5.
