My boyfriend and I went to Mingalaba on the Fourth of July. The food was genuinely delicious, and the avocado veggie roll was huge and very filling. That said, spending around $30 for one vegetable roll felt pretty overpriced.

I was also disappointed by the service. Our server wasn’t particularly friendly, and the interaction felt a little cold from the start. I which wasn’t a great feeling because I had actually been looking forward to coming back. I came here as a kid with my dad and grandma and was looking forward to a nostalgic meal.

I also noticed a 16% service charge added to the receipt. When I asked, I was told it counted as the tip, so I didn’t leave an additional one. If that’s the case, it felt a little odd for a small order and a party of two.

Overall, the food was very good, but the service and pricing on the avocado roll left me unsure if I’d return.

Came here for a catch up with a friend. Despite being busy we were seated immediately, and staff was always on top of our needs. Ordered the paratha, tea leaf salad, rangoon beef, and Burmese style curry lamb, with a coconut rice. The food came out relatively fast. The tea leaf salad was mixed in front of us.

The flavor on the tea leaf salad was complex but it kept shifting. Originally earthy and balanced but after a while all I could taste is a small farm and the bitterness overrode all the other flavors. Not sure how that happened but we weren’t fans of how it ended.

The paratha was good with the included curry. Rangoon beef had good balance with the fresh veggies. The curry lamb likewise had a nice flavor and a tiny bit of kick on it. If I had to nitpick, the lamb was a little tough. Not that much but enough where it might be better to shred the lamb on your plate than just bite into a whole piece.

All in all around $90 plus tip. Portion-wise everything we ordered fit for two people. If you’re really hungry might want to add more rice.

The restaurant itself is intimate and well kept. Location-wise of course in the heart of Burlingame. Good for a date, or a catch up in my case.

Mingalaba is a solid spot for Burmese food. I visited with a friend and overall, we had a good experience.

The dishes were flavorful and well-prepared — definitely captured the essence of Burmese cuisine. We ordered three dishes along with a bowl of rice for each of us. While everything tasted great, the portion sizes felt a bit lacking. For two people, the amount of food wasn’t quite enough, even with three different dishes. We left still a bit hungry.

That said, everything else was great. The service was attentive, and the waitstaff were friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was casual but welcoming.

If the portion sizes were just a bit more generous, this would easily be a top pick. Still, worth visiting for the taste and overall experience.
