Room 217. Drove in 5.5 hours and ate at Tomo restaurant which was excellent from 7-8pm. Room 217 is one of the rooms that overlooks the lovely garbage and recycling dumpsters. This normally wouldn’t be an issue but the room was so musty and rank that we needed to open the windows for fresh air since the overhead fan did nothing for circulation (more on this later)… mmmm fresh air at the price of rotting fish smell. Since there is no fridge in this tiny beige 80s remodeled room offering a full advertised as a queen sized we decided to leave at 2am for food at Toni’s after being awoke by a crowd of drunkards leaving the nearby bar, after driving all day Tomo wasn’t the most filling of meals anyways, although good – ate, came back around 3am with a plan to wake up at 10am for adventures if we could just get some sleep. Went to bed, was awoke at 4:45 and again at 5 am by the alarm clock going off, set by the previous tenant I’m assuming – rough. Unplugged alarm. 5:30 am – awoke to someone loudly rummaging through the trash and recycling while arguing right outside our open windows to relieve said musty smell at the price of dead fish smell – brutal. 6am and 6:30 am – awoken by garbage trucks picking up multiple dumpsters outside now closed windows. Somewhere between 7:30-8:30am -awoke to hotel staff OPENING OUR DOOR WITH A DO NOT DISTURB sign on the door which was chained shut with the dead bolt – unacceptable. At this point we realized sleep was not going to be an option here and we gathered our belongings to leave a full day early. Explained everything at the check out counter- was offered a 50% reimbursement. Whatever. Go to get the car where hotel staff INSTRUCTED US to park and it turns out we were in fact in a tow away zone in the bank parking lot. Thankfully car was still in place but by the time it would’ve taken to find new accommodations our trip would’ve been more than halfway over so we left a full day early to come home and cut our losses. The kicker? The hotel was mostly empty and there was no logical reason to put us directly over “dumpster alley” in the first place. If you want a tiny, musty drab beige closet to sleep in with no fridge, no fresh air and weird blood/poop stains on the walls and shower curtains by all means – I recommend this place. However if you want sleep this is NOT the place for it. Worst hotel experience of my entire life.

Historic hotel with a distinct aesthetic right downtown. No AC but luckily it wasn’t needed, though it got hot in our room with the windows closed. Parking on side streets. Mediocre continental breakfast, but coffee is hot and there are plenty of great food options in walking distance. Front desk staff were all very kind and helpful, and housekeeping did great every day as well. This hotel is a great home base for a Redwoods vacation and Arcata is an interesting funky town to explore. We enjoyed our time so much we got an extra night.

Rooms are nice and simple. Bed sheets aren’t great but pillows are nice. Felt weird to have windows open without a screen but I’m from Midwest so who knows. Shower was fantastic. Staff were friendly.

Sherrie at the front desk was such a great person to work with. She was so accommodating and made our college students stay at the hotel great. It was an older hotel but very charming and the staff did a great job on making sure everything was good. Definitely would stay there again.
    I have no complaints.

I’ve stayed at this place several times throughout my life while passing through. Clawfoot tubs and comfortable beds. Located right on the square. Perfect spot to stay for the farmer’s market on Saturdays. The staff is super chill and you get a proper key for the room.
