We had a very pleasant stay at the Holiday Inn at 1430 7th Ave. Our room was clean and ready, with useful amenities including a refrigerator and microwave, along with the everyday comforts that made our stay convenient.

The service really stood out. We arrived before check-in and planned to leave our luggage and find lunch while we waited. Austin McCartney greeted us and kindly found us a room that was ready early. We truly appreciated his thoughtfulness. The front desk staff were also helpful and friendly when we needed assistance at 6:30 a.m.

Breakfast was a welcome bonus, and the location made it easy to walk just a few minutes to nearby restaurants and a small local grocery store. We’d happily recommend this hotel to others looking for a comfortable stay, helpful service, and convenient access to dining.

We came for a romantic two-night anniversary getaway to explore the city and had a wonderful stay. The service was impeccable—everyone was welcoming, thoughtful, and genuinely went above and beyond. Austin M., the office manager, was especially helpful, and every staff member we encountered was friendly and pleasant.

The property was clean, with great views and balconies we loved. The bed was comfortable, and we didn’t hear any traffic noise. We also felt safe walking around the area. As with any city, there are people experiencing homelessness, so just be aware of your surroundings. They had no interest in us. We walked with a purpose.

The location was perfect—within walking distance of Little Italy, the farmers market, the Gaslamp Quarter, and plenty of restaurants. If you’d rather not walk, everything is a quick, inexpensive Uber ride away.

One note: parking is tight for trucks.

A wonderful anniversary stay, and we would absolutely stay here again!

Cookies & popcorn in lobby were a nice little touch- We slept so well we didn’t get to enjoy the breakfast.

I don’t understand the bad reviews about the rooms but we stayed at a classic standard 2 twin bedroom. Room was very clean and the bathroom as well, all the basics covered. Staff was friendly and during check out they even offered bottled water to go. We were surprised with the breakfast, they are so tasteless and basic usually at all 3 star hotels. This one offered variety and the taste was very acceptable, even with boxes to go. Hotel is on a dark street but it’s a safe area. You can find homeless everywhere in downtown San Diego, so that’s not a down point. Very close to Balboa Park, Gaslam Quarter and Little Italy, Uber/Lyft are $7-9. We didn’t use the parking, it was cheaper to Uber everywhere. The only down was the noise at 6am, some trucks making noise at times, but they offered ear plugs and they helped. For the price, we found it perfect.

One of the Best Breakfasts on the West Coast

I only stayed overnight and headed straight to the buffet breakfast early the next morning. It was truly one of the best buffet experiences I’ve had on the West Coast.

While I unfortunately didn’t capture any photos, everything from the freshly brewed coffee and yogurts to the pancakes, scrambled eggs, and sausages was perfect. Ideally located in the heart of downtown, this hotel and its breakfast are hard to beat!

Plus! Bottled waters are free & rooms are clean.
