June 19,2026 at 10:50a 1st experience here was terrible.
Lived in Benicia 18+ yrs, still work here, but, not around as often as before. I saw Drift as a new Cafe house, across my barber and decided to give them a try. I walked in and there were 3 employees, a guy in the back and 2 girls (1 Caucasian and 1 new girl – I am guessing from their convo) guess the owners are away driving some relative to the airport, traveling to Switzerland?
Spoke w the girl (not the newbie), I ordered a large Mocha and a bacon avocado toast.
Newbie girl brought me my Mocha, it came in 3 mins. (Nice)
I asked the new girl about my toast, she said the other girl was making it. (Perfect)
I waited 10 mins as I heard them gabbing, I was guessing they were toasting the bread? heating the bacon?? another 10 mins passed, as they talked about where they want to live and how they didn’t want to pay toll, etc… Benicia had everything, etc… just talking away.
After a total of about 25 mins, I figured, I could’ve ordered a Pizza by now. I walked up and asked about my bacon avocado toast and they both had a look like I just walked in and they never saw me, looked at each other, confused?? Even though, I was sitting inside all that time waiting. I even asked the Newbie about my toast? I mentioned to her that “you said, she was making my toast?” Guess what? They NEVER made it! Both looked confused and started to say i thought you did it and no I thought I made a Pizza?? What??
They apologized which was nice and kind of helped and on a normal day, I would have waited for them to make a new order, but, I had to go to an appt. So, I left pretty annoyed.
My opinion, it was very poor attention to customers. The girls were more interested in gabbing than work.
I cancelled and left the place and told them to keep the refund as a tip. Maybe they can use it for toll?
I hope it gets better in Drift, I like the spot and the hot drinks. I can only assume that service is poor when the owners are away.
I left at 11:25a still wanting my Bacon Avocado toast.
I love this cafe. I was first drawn to its adorable patio seating with yellow and white umbrellas. The focaccia avocado toast and iced coffee were so tasty! Service was great and the owner is friendly! I enjoyed painting the scene during the Benicia Plein Ir Paint Out.
What a amazing place we live in Martinez and when I went onto Google, I said wanna try a new coffee shop in town the second thing on the list was Drift though it’s not in Martinez, it’s only 10 minutes away, so we figured let’s try it.
My dad and I were so impressed. There was one lady working. She was doing it all making the food, the coffee and helping the guest. She was quick and super polite.
She made me a drink that’s not on the menu did not question it. She wrote it down, which was awesome. A lot of the times when I go to a coffee shop and I request something that might be unusual to some they get confused and question. She did not.
Drift is a cute little coffee shop right on Main Street in Benicia—perfect for a casual stop. The menu is pretty straightforward with the basics, but everything we tried was done well.
We ordered the almond croissant, apricot croissant, and a hot chocolate. The croissants were fresh, flaky, and exactly how a good croissant should be. The hot chocolate hit the spot too, especially on a busy morning.
Despite the crowd, service was impressively fast and efficient, which we really appreciated. Nothing overly fancy here—just solid coffee and pastries in a nice location. We’ll definitely stop by again the next time we’re in the area.
The food was good and tasty. I like the location, right on 1st street and near the water front. The drinks were good too. But only problem is it’s a bit pricey. It’s good but this may have to be one of those once in a blue moon or special occasions. We’re talking two slices of pizza, a pastry and to drinks for $50. You definitely get quality here. So if you don’t mind the price go for it. You’ll enjoy the food.
