Take myself out from a birthday. I went there kind by accident. The food was actually pretty great pasta might have been a little overcooked, but that may be how the clientele likes it. The meatball was amazing. The service was really slow. They just ignored me for a long time. They never asked me if I wanted dessert.

Charlew’s Taphouse is an adorable place in the Anderson outlet plaza, where I would not change a thing of their brand to continue giving that sincere Mom n Pop’s shop feel to customers. We chose this place for our annie dinner because it has a Kids game room, perfect for our toddler while waiting to get seated, and waiting for the food. We had the Calzone and loved it!!!! We also had their veggie pizza, also pretty good! Great atmosphere overall. For a Thursday, seems it was busy from 4pm to 7pm, then slows down after 7pm. We loved our time and experience altogether and Highly recommend it to families, parties, and small groups. Room for improvement in service, is minor.

I randomly walked here from my hotel on the way home from Portland. Anderson is just south of Redding. I met the owners who were extremely generous and friendly! Renamed after Covid, this place has a long 70+ years of family history. They were very accommodating with the menu choices. I sat in the bar area, which was far enough away from the huge children’s play room to not even know it was there! (No offense to parents, who I’m sure would really enjoy having a full-sized game area for parties.) The food was awesome. (I got the pictured lunch portion chicken Alfredo that was grandma’s homemade recipe.) This is a must for anyone traveling on the 5 going to or coming from Shasta/Oregon! I didn’t read other reviews, but can’t imagine anything less than 5 stars!!

Still hands down the best pizza I have tasted in the north state. I liken it to pizza I had on my way back from the middle east in 94, when we had a layover in Sigonella, Italy, and I had a Calzone for the first time there. It was baked in a stone oven and it was a small mom & pop pizzeria.
Which means they kept the ingredients and the way they make it consistent as when it was Mary’s Pizza Shack which is so awesome! The wait staff (Brooke & Natalie) were so friendly, personable and very attentive to detail! Even the house salad I had, though a little small, was sooo good!
They even have very affordable lunch specials if you are on a budget, but for the price you can do no better, even if you doubled the price.
They even have a full bar, and some nice microbrews on tap (see photos). I would have to say this place is a hidden gem, and the fact that you can be in the parking lot in 2 minutes after exiting Interstate 5, means it is also very convenient and easy to get to!

I’d give them more than 5 stars if I could. We had my eldest son’s birthday here today and the kids all had a blast. We had kids ranging from 1 year old to 9 years old and they all loved it. It’s also a nice opportunity for adults to catch up while the kids play safely. The best birthday party I’ve had for any of my 3 kids. The food was also excellent. Not to mention the staff were all great and a special shoutout to the owners who are just lovely. We were treated so well with such excellent service. We even had a personal emergency while there (not in any way caused by or related to Charlew’s) and the owners were very accommodating to us and very caring to make sure everything was ok (which it ended up being totally fine). They all went above and beyond to service us from the start, throughout the party and through our little emergency. I highly recommend them as a restaurant and especially the Adventure Room for kids birthdays. 🙂
