Came here on a weekday night, wasn’t too busy. This is CV’s best BBQ joint and it is phenomenal. I ordered a 2 meat combo brisket and pork ribs with mac n cheese, cold slaw, cornbread. Come early and hungry if you want certain selections of meats and cuts!
m not entirely sure how many years this place has been here but I am definitely happy to have finally given this place a try. Having just moved to Castro Vally 6 months ago, finding good eats has been a fun adventure so far.
My go-to BBQ spot prior to moving was The Smoking South and I need to first say God Bless the man that owns that place, he is a sweet heart.
That being said, Canyon’s bbq is absolutely delicious and a winner with my family. I haven’t tried their chicken yet but I have tried their ribs, tri-tip, brisket, and burntends and they are all delicious. Personally, I love the brisket the most. The restaurant space inside looks spacious and there are plenty of beers on tap and cans to try out. As for their sides, I really love their mac and cheese.
I tend to pickup my order around 6 for dinner so I usually place my order online earlier in the day. They usually have everything but if you wait too late, they might run out of a meat choice that you like.
Staff is very friendly everytime I have come in to pickup my order. As for parking, most people just park across the street behind Chipotle since their lot is spacious enough.
Visited Canyons Barbeque recently and had a negative experience.
The ordering process is full counter service: you order at the register, pick up your food there when it’s ready, and then bus your own trays to the trash afterward. I was surprised they still ask for a tip at the register with this level of service.
I ordered the tri-tip sandwich with a side of fries. The bread was good and the tri-tip itself had decent flavor, but the sandwich was smaller than I expected — it was half a sandwich. Not a full sandwich. The fries were also a huge disappointment for the price (see photo). For $50 for two people, the portions felt very light, especially the fries. My friends ordered two sides and received roughly the same tiny amount of fries as I did with my meal.
The chicken my partner got was extremely dry — so much so that we ended up throwing it away instead of taking it home.
On the positive side, the atmosphere is nice for grabbing a beer and hanging out. The parking lot is chaotic with a lot of bad drivers, but once you’re settled, it’s a pleasant outdoor space. It’s a shame there are no fish options on the menu.
Overall, I wouldn’t recommend it for a full meal, but it could work for drinks and a casual meet-up.
Stopped by Canyon BBQ and honestly wasn’t expecting it to be this good. The meat is legit, you can tell it’s been smoked right, not rushed. Brisket had a solid bark, juicy inside, not dry like most places try to pass off. Ribs came out tender, good bite, not falling apart mush.
Sides were actually worth it too, which is rare. Mac and cheese had flavor, not just cream, and the beans had that smoky kick that ties everything together.
Service was chill and quick, nothing over the top, just people that know what they’re doing. Place has a good vibe, feels like somewhere you can come back without thinking twice.
If you’re in the area and want real BBQ, this spot delivers. I’ll be back for sure.
The staff at Canyon’s BBQ is always so welcoming, and the food is consistently great. I stopped in during the holidays and Debbie went above and beyond to helpful, truly excellent service! I got the large Gaucho sandwich combo with garlic and a mac & cheese side for $24, plus a regular turkey meal with mac & cheese, fries, and a slice of garlic bread for $16.50. All in, it was $45 and absolutely worth it. Would highly recommend!
