We dropped in and went to bar for a drink while waiting for a reservation time next door at Rusty Pelican (not good) and LOVED the place. Never been there and never heard of it, but everything was great. We have the “World Famous Billy Mai Tai” and it went down smoothly! As we were leaving, saw plates of the Tempura Green Beans….had to come back next night for those! Yum!! SO good!

Brendan made me the best Mai Thai I’ve ever had. If they weren’t so strong I would’ve ordered a 4th. Will be back soon!

5/5 Stars — Absolutely Fantastic Bayside Lunch!

My partner and I stopped by Billy’s At The Beach on Sunday after a wonderful morning exploring Newport. Even though we didn’t have a reservation, we were welcomed and seated immediately as walk-ins.

The restaurant decor captured us right away… it truly feels like stepping straight into Hawaii! Paired with the spectacular views of the marina, it made for a memorable afternoon.

The food was incredible. My partner loved the fish and chips, and my avocado toast was fresh and delicious. On top of that, the service was outstanding throughout our meal, and using the valet parking made arrival and departure seamless.

Highly recommended—we will definitely be back again!

We’ve been going to Billy’s for years, and I usually love it here. This trip felt a bit off, and I left feeling a little bummed by how much the menu seems to shift each time we visit. I’m all for innovation and creativity, but it can take me a few minutes to find my bearings and reconnect with the favorites I’ve come to expect.

The positives still stand out: the blackened fish tacos were delicious. The drinks are always good, and water was plentiful.

Timing and seating, however, added to the challenge. We had a reservation for 12:30 to beat the Newport crowd, but the seating wasn’t ideal—sitting behind a loud family with a screaming child altered the vibe, and we were also seated in a tight corner of the restaurant, which made us feel a bit trapped.

Service didn’t quite meet expectations. Our server seemed overwhelmed, and a second round of drinks never materialized. Our food was dropped by a different server, and that extra drink still didn’t arrive. It’s frustrating when pacing and consistency lag right as the meal comes together.

Overall, the food held up well, especially the fish, and I still enjoy Billy’s for the core flavors. Going forward, I’ll likely plan weekday visits or non-holiday times to recapture the usual pace, and I’ll keep an eye out for menu items that align with my favorites. If you’re a longtime Billy’s fan, you’ll still find something to love, but be prepared for a bit of menu reorientation each time you go. Here’s hoping the rhythm settles back after the holiday rush.
