As a kid I loved going to Whiskeytown lake. I had my birthday party in July every year there. It’s the best lake for swimming. And it used to be free. I understand needing revenue to keep the area nice. But $25 is too expensive for spending just one day there. I live in Michigan but visit family in Red Bluff every year. It’s a long drive from Red Bluff to the lake. And gas is high. I don’t understand why there can’t be, say, $15 for a day pass? A lot of people can’t afford $25, even if it’s good for seven days. Some can only afford one trip. It’s a shame we can’t enjoy a day at the lake with the gas to get there and 25 bucks on top of it. It’s sad.

Great park to make a stop at if you find yourself in the area. The staff is super friendly and can provide you with ideas for the time you have available. I ended up hiking 2 waterfall trails as a result of their advice.
They have NPS unigrids (brochures/maps) available at the visitor center which I greatly appreciated.

Whiskey Lake is a beautiful and well-maintained spot that’s perfect for a relaxing family outing. The lake itself is stunning, and the surrounding areas offer plenty to explore, including a peaceful creek that flows right into the water. The paved trail makes it an easy and accessible walk for all ages, and the picnic tables along the way are a great touch for anyone wanting to stop for lunch or just enjoy the view.
The scenery feels majestic and calming, making it a great place to unwind and connect with nature. Our visit was unfortunately cut short by rain, but it was still worth the trip. We’re already looking forward to coming back and spending more time there.

Beautiful, but a lot of ticks right now. Had to constantly brush ticks off my dog, had to pull a tick out of her, and my friend was bit. Beautiful hike but good info to have. Bring tick removal tools just in case.
