We went on the Skunk train out of Fort Bragg and were pretty disappointed. The time frame for the trip was 1 1/2 hours. I knew there was a stop over i just didn’t realize how long it would be. The actual time spent on the train was only about 15 min each direction. The stopover was in a vety pretty area of redwoods and was 45 min long. While there you coukd explore the area or stay at the charming outdoor area with really overpriced offerings of drinks and snacks. The ride along the creek was very pretty as well as the short distance we went into the redwoods. The train offers indoor and outdoor seating but, sadly, the outdoor car is for standing only. They do not have any benches or seating areas on the outdoor car. I preferred to be outdoors, but due to disabilities had to stay inside because I needed to sit.
I think this train ride would be great for locals or people living within a few hours away. We live in Southern CA though and had a 14 hour car ride to get there. It certainly wasn’t worth the drive.
Today we are in Willits to ride the train again. Hopefully we will have a more worthwhile experience.
Xochitl and Travis were excellent guides / instructors. They were very patient explaining the non-intuitive bike controls to my two elderly hard-of-hearing parents. Gorgeous scenery on the Railcoaster route, with a beautiful forest glen lunch stop. Xochitl’s walk + talk to Grandma Redwood was compelling. The rider weight limit is very frustrating, I once wrote a similar rail bike in Las Vegas designed for four men, and there was no rule about maximum weight?
Took my daughter on the Mr. Skunk and the Giant Christmas Tree route and it exceeded every expectation! The Skunk Train experience is absolutely incredible – from the moment we boarded, the holiday spirit was everywhere.
The journey through the redwoods to see the world’s largest Christmas tree was breathtaking. My daughter’s face lit up the entire ride, and honestly, so did mine. The staff was fantastic, making it feel special for families, and the whole experience was perfectly paced for kids. This is exactly the kind of adventure that creates lasting memories. If you’re looking for a unique family experience during the holidays, the Skunk Train delivers in every way. We’ll definitely be back! Highly recommend for families it’s worth every mile of the drive to get there.
This was an amazing experience, especially during Christmas. I was with my family for the experience and I loved how they incorporated Mr skunk and had other holiday activities for the whole family such as snowball fights, candy cane treats, and cookies & hot chocolate, and live music. So if your looking for something for a family tradition for the holidays, visit wilits skunk train, 10/10 does not disappoint.
Fun experience on the Christmas train which is decorated with lights and gift boxes. The staff was very friendly and dressed for the season as elves. One member was singing Christmas songs. It’s open seating so we spent time with our dog both on the open air and indoor cars.
