We had visited The Marshall Store before as a quick road trip pit stop and absolutely loved it—it’s no surprise the New York Times named it one of the top 50 restaurants in the US! We loved it so much that this time around, we made a special trip up from SF just to have lunch here.
The good news: the Rockefeller and Kilpatrick grilled oysters were just as incredible as we remembered. I highly recommend ordering both! The downside was that they were running a limited menu on the day we visited (a Wednesday), and they are currently not serving alcohol.
Since the menu was limited, we branched out and tried the crab sandwich and the campechana (shrimp and octopus cocktail). The crab sandwich was solid, but the campechana missed the mark for me. It came served in a sealed plastic container, which made it feel like it was store-bought, and the seafood was a bit too chewy for my liking.
Despite the hiccups, I’m still giving them 5 stars. I know firsthand how amazing this place can be, and it’s on me for not checking their weekday menu changes in advance. We will definitely be back—probably on a weekend next time
The oysters are always good, soo good!! Love the views too. Can’t say I really care for anything else I’ve had there though. I’ve had a lot of different things over the years, from soups, salads, sandwiches. Everything else is just okay. Maybe it’s the pricing of it all too? For such high prices I’d expect just a little more flavor and finesse. I’d like to add that I had the Chorizo stew last time I was there and it was sandy, which isn’t always a pleasant feeling.
What I’m getting at here is… oysters, oysters, &&& more oysters (all styles)! Oh and some beef jerky (very good)!!
Two of us had a weekend lunch here. It is counter service and eclectic. Most of the seating is outside. The menus is diverse and oysters feature prominently. We had a crab salad and a fish sandwich and oysters Rockefeller. All the dishes were very good and fresh the service was great.
If you are in the area, this restaurant is a must!! It’s such a cute restaurant next to the water and you can’t beat the view, plus the food is delicious.
Highly recommend the oysters, crab sandwich, clam chowder and you can’t leave without a trying their soft serve, probably the best soft serve I’ve ever had.
There is two big areas to seat right and left of the restaurant. Can’t wait to go back!!
The Marshall Store changed my life. I used to not like oysters at all until I ate here. I was always afraid of the texture or the taste. This was the first time I’ve had oysters that were so sweet and fresh. You can only get this breed of oysters here too. Now, I don’t just crave oysters. I crave them from here. The grilled oyster flavors are also superb. All the flavors just mesh well together. I’m suprised to say I’m willing to try more oysters now. The other cooked foods on the menu are so delicious. The bread is from Route One Bakery so it’s fresh and it pairs so well with the fish. The Buffalo icecream wasn’t as funky as I thought and it was really creamy.
