We had the tamales—chicken, pork, cheese and the sweet corn one. All of them tasted great and were pretty generously sized. The red and green salsas were all obviously hand made with some love. I also noticed that the masa used had a pleasantly light, moist quality to it—it wasn’t dense and dry. You just gotta respect the hell out of a place that can serve up a hearty, nutritious packet of goodness like this for around $3.

Visiting from Texas and saw this place as I was driving, so made a U-turn to stop by.
Got a chicken and cheese Tamale. The chicken was great, a little thin but it had a good amount of meet to masa ratio. But the cheese was disappointing, it was 80% masa and had a small pepper and little cheese.

They made a typo. They said best tamales in the Bay area but they meant worst. These are 90% masa. Look at the picture and tell me that isn’t a joke. That’s the pork tamale. They couldn’t have put less in if they tried.
I got cheese chicken and pork and all three are incredibly light on the filling. If I hadn’t read a review saying to ask for the free salsa which they don’t otherwise include, these would be too dense to even choke down.

Wife grew up in the Mission in SF and had lots of restaurant, food cart, and homemade tamales. She says these are some of her favorites!

I hear the tamales are delicious, but everytime I go there they are either out of the vegetarian options or closed even during listed open hours. At least put up a sign on when you might open the window back up, if the clapboard is still out.
