I was at a conference in Napa and was sooo tired of “peopling”. I had been to this shop a few years prior and loved it. When I walked in, I discovered the previous winemaker had closed up shop and there was a new winemaker in the space. Katherine was finishing her lunch but stopped to pour me a glass of wine and water. We talked a little bit and she gave me a book to read. It only took a couple of minutes before we were talking about her wines and how she got started. Katherine has an amazing past! Needless to say, I spend a good hour or so just chatting and tasting. Her wines were absolutely wonderful. And you know how you go to a tasting, buy a couple of bottles, only to find out they weren’t as great as they were in the tasting room? That was definitely not the case with these. I bought 2 syrah’s and 2 private reserve red blends. I opened one of the syrah’s last night and it was delightful! I highly recommend visiting the tasting room and buying as much as you can. She will even ship them for you. Absolute lovely experience!

Katherine was top-notch! The wine is wonderful and organic, which we love! She seated us we with no reservation and was lovely and cheerful the entirety of our time together. GO SEE KATHERINE AND SOL REI WINE!!!

We stumbled upon this place while walking around the plaza – we were drawn in by the low sulfites, low histamine wine and Katherine’s great personality! We opted for the second wine tasting with the focaccia and olive oil. Each wine was better than the next. Katherine gave us background on all wines and we learned of her horse and her experience making wines. She also shared a book about wine and showed us the pairings page!
She had a puzzle for us to do while we sipped the wine. All around great experience, and a beautiful tasting room! Would recommend to anyone in the area!

Just a few steps off Sonoma Plaza, the pace shifts. A narrow passage opens into something more intimate – quiet, personal, almost as if you’ve discovered it rather than arrived. Sol Rei Wines doesn’t announce itself. It receives you.

Inside, everything works together. Soft natural light, fresh flowers, living greenery, and a warmth that feels human rather than designed. At one point, the person pouring the wine pauses to adjust a small arrangement – she’s the owner, Katherine. That explains the atmosphere. It’s not styled. It’s cared for. A small, thoughtfully designed tasting room where the experience feels genuinely personal.

The name Sol Rei – Portuguese for “Sun King” – carries a personal story. It honors Katherine’s horse, Quando Rei, a long-time companion whose presence quietly shapes the brand. The heart in the logo reflects a horse brand mark, and even the detailing on the sparkling wine bottle draws from his bridle. It’s thoughtful, but never overexplained.

Behind the bar, a vineyard image by Jason Tinacci stretches across the wall, grounding the space back in the source. The wines follow that same logic – low sulfite, lab-tested, clean in approach, with fruit from respected Sonoma vineyards like Sangiacomo. The Blanc de Blancs sparkling wine stands out: crisp, precise, and easy to stay with.

The overall feeling is simple to describe and rare to find – you are inside a place that feels warm, safe, and quietly cared for. The wines don’t compete with that. They support it.
