The road to orchard campground is permanently closed so all campgrounds are hike in. Also, no potable water so bring your water. Beautiful place though!

Beautiful area with lots of wildlife. We saw several groups of elk and a small blackbear. Dogs can be taken on leash from the visitor center south to bear harbor campground. The road in is a steep one lane, so be careful. 8$ for parking

Friendly people working at the visitor center to get you a campground or day use permit. Seems like a sketch road to bring a trailer, plus no drive in spots for rigs. There is a hike just over a mile to the beach from the parking lot. The road is closed past the parking lot to the beach as of when we went (7/7/2024), so the only way to the beach is walking. Signs were saying the road to the campgrounds will also be closed from 8/6/2024 to 11/16/2024 so keep that in mind.

Absolutely breathtaking! The road was rough but it was SO SO worth the drive. The views are like nothing I’ve seen in California. We saw a heard of elk and they let us get really close to them. The hike down to needle rock was so much fun and the black sand beaches were AMAZING! This truly is a hidden gem. The only regret was that the visitor center was closed. I would have like to see what was inside.
