We visited Sam’s General Store today for breakfast and unfortunately had a disappointing experience.
We ordered a mocha, an Americano, a breakfast sandwich, and a chocolate croissant, took our table number, and sat in the backyard seating area. The café was busy, which we completely understood, but after a long wait we noticed customers who ordered after us being served first. Delays happen, but what stood out was the lack of communication and attentiveness.
Only after we went back to the counter to ask about our order did the breakfast sandwich arrive, and much later we were informed that they were “freshly out” of the chocolate croissant. It would have been far more professional to let us know earlier instead of leaving us waiting without any update, especially since the item was visibly available when we ordered.
The food itself was decent, but nothing memorable enough to offset the dismissive service. What made the experience uncomfortable was the overall attitude. As people of color in a predominantly white space, the lack of attentiveness and basic courtesy left us feeling disregarded. I cannot say what the intent was, but the experience certainly did not feel welcoming.
Good hospitality is not just about food. It is also about acknowledgment, communication, and treating every customer with equal respect.
Adorable family owned store, cafe, and coffee shop. Beautiful and well maintained. The food and coffee are both excellent. Fair warning though, it’s very expensive. We got two coffees, two sandwiches, and two bags of chips and it was $55.
Came late in the day to grab a quick sandwich, and was pleasantly surprised with how delicious it was! I had the prosciutto and burrata and my companion had the roast beef and mozzarella. Both toasted, they were piping hot and flavorful! Sat outside on the poarch and watched the world go by!
Perfect coffee shop for wine country. They have delicious small bites and some heartier meals. Good fit for breakfast or lunch especially if you’re looking for some easy but comfortable.
Excellent coffee selection with some fun specialties.
I am a coffee lover. One of my favorite things to do with my love is to try fun new coffee places. From appearance this place hits all feels. My pastry was delightful the Corraso was decent. I simply said it was my first time visiting what are you know for? I was greeted with a haughty response, which changed the feeling of my first impression to one of disappointment in this experience.
