I was pretty disappointed with our experience here. We were a party of 3 celebrating a birthday. To start off we were told our server was late to work, which is tmi and set the tone for the evening as our server was very disinterested in serving us. We ordered 3 micheladas that came after our food. And they were genuinely the worst I’ve ever had. They were watered down so much we didn’t taste the beer or the mix. Usually it’s one or the other, but these were like glasses of water. I would’ve preferred a niche out of a can at that point. I normally don’t complain, especially on a busy night, I’ve been a server and bartender for more than a decade so I have a lot of grace to give, but it was a birthday, they were already dropped late etc. The manager gave us 50% off the drinks, but they should’ve been a fully comped. At the very least, they should’ve offered to remake them or offer us a round of beers. A Mexican restaurant who can’t make a good Micheladas isn’t a good look. Then when we told our server there was a bday at the table, she completely ignored us. Like walked away and acted like she didn’t hear us. We gave her the benefit of the doubt until she came back later and said she’d bring us something for the birthday-she did not.
Overall, the decor was adorable, the food was okay, the drinks sucked and the service was bad. The environment was very loud, it’s definitely a birthday spot. They do a club type bday celebration thing where staff members bring sparklers, a cake or bottle to the table and the music gets really loud. It’s cute if you’re looking for turn up vibes. Not cute if you’re looking for good food, miches and good vibes, sadly.
Our experience at Rosa Madera was great. We didn’t wait long to be seated at a table. The waiter was super attentive and helpful.
As an appetizer we ordered the garlic and spicy aoli potatoes, they were so good. Really spicy for me, but I asked for some ketchup and that helped.
Then I ordered the two item combo with the a mushroom taco and a chicken mole enchilada, it comes with rice and beans. And I really enjoyed both items.
My husband ordered the three item combo with the chile relleno, the flautas and the sope. He really enjoyed all of his items.
The portions are good. The flavor is authentic and the service was great.
This restaurant came highly recommended by a coworker who lives in Lodi—about 35 miles south—and I can now see why he makes the drive so often. It’s not the easiest place to find, tucked away behind a heavily wooded parking lot, but stepping inside is a completely different story.
From the moment you walk in, it’s a five-star experience from start to finish. The ambiance is incredible, Oscar—our waiter—was flawless, and both the food and drinks were top-notch. The portions are generous and fairly priced, which makes the experience even better. Even on a Monday evening, the place was packed… and now I understand exactly why.
I highly recommend this restaurant—keep up the great work. We’ll definitely be back soon.
