Active steam museum that is only open 2 days a month. The museum is not part of the Mendocino museum as Google maps shows and is a separate museum.

They have several exhibits you can see from the gate if you are not able to go in. There appears to be a track loop they run the train on when open. This would a fun stop if timing on your travels works out.

So much amazing antique equipment. Much of it is steam. They have operating steam locomotives which you can take a ride on. They also have a steam shovel, a steam crane, and several steam rollers. In addition they have early diesel locomotives and other early tractors and logging equipment. Catch them when they are running equipment for a real treat.

So cool! This is the only place in California where you can learn to operate a steam shovel!!! The volunteers are great and knowledgeable! This museum also has lots of old working machinery. If you can. Go to their Labor Day weekend celebration

We visited the museum but just on the outside they are closed on weekdays and I was aware of this. If you like logging history or steam locomotives this is a great place to visit. Even though they were closed we were able to walk around the parameter and take a look at a fair amount of the rolling stock and other items in the collection. One of these days I’ll get a chance to come back when they are open and having one of their public events. Also, it was cool to see some of the pieces that were formerly located at Camp 6 Logging Museum in Tacoma, WA. Definitely support this museum with donations or your time if you can.

If you want to see some steam engines, this is the place. Probably has one of the largest operating steam engine collection in the Northern US. The Steam shovel is a rare gem that was very cool to see operate, and their steam locomotives are beautifully restored. If you can, visit during the annual Steam Festival, when they have everything running.
