Came here during my vacation to Norther California. I had to do the epic James Irvine, to Fern Canyon and The Miners Ridge hike. The longest hike I’ve ever done and it was amazing and tough.

Arrived here first thing in the morning to start. The Redwoods here are still amazing to see, but not as big. There’s a few here and there. The trails here are not as rooty as Boy Scout trail at Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. More dirt, flat and mostly wide. As I got closer to Fern Canyon, the trail narrows a lot. There’s some elevation throughout, but nothing strenuous.

Seeing Fern Canyon was spectacular! Highly recommend bring water shoes. Yes, there were wooden planks that you could walk on to get across, but there were only a few of them around. Also, they were doing construction at the exit, so when I reached the end, had to turn around.

If you plan on doing the James Irvine, to Fern Canyon and The Miners Ridge hike, highly recommend hiking poles. Luckily there’s a few benches along the way to rest. And rest whenever you can! Some sites say it’s about 11 miles, but the APP I was using to track my miles, clocked me in at around 13 miles.

Lots of parking at the visitors center with bathroom facilities.

Tallest trees in the world. I mean, come on this is RedWoods. The park is so incredibly well kept, bring a jacket. It does get cool. There are different length of trails to walk on ranging from a mile on up either way you will be transported into a completely new world.

A beautiful park. We hiked James Irvine trail to the Fern Canyon, walked on the beach and came back via Miners Ridge trail. Long hike, but we weren’t able to get a parking reservation for Fern Canyon.

Gorgeous. Went today. Big Tree trail was fabulous, following the creek, falling leaves everywhere, ferns everywhere, so much moss and greenery. Thick forest that provided shelter from the rain. The air was damp and cool and smelled lovely. Exactly as I imagined the redwoods would be. Saw Bear scat but no bears.

Wow so beautiful the trail was easy with a few obstacles one of the best hikes we have been on in the redwoods kid friendly five finger ferns waterfalls on moss. We saw elk just walking out of the parking lot at the beach. You do need a permit easy on line to get.
