Started off our Napa trip with the family at Porter Family Vineyards. Could not have asked for a better place to visit. The vineyards, the cave, the wines were all excellent. Luis was a great host and made us feel very welcome. Joined their club and will be back

My girlfriend took me to the Porter family vineyard for a 40th birthday trip to Napa. I was not disappointed. The grounds are beautiful, the wine delicious, and if you think you’ve seen a wine cavern before think again. This is a serious installation, more like a James Bond movie set (complete with huge mechanical wine making machinery that the owner, inventor of the 3.5” floppy disk himself created) than a “cut & fill” cellar. Our host Luis Martin del Campo struck the perfect blend of knowledgeable viticulturist, sommelier, gourmand, and host. We felt like we’d been invited into the Porter extended family living room and were neither rushed nor left to our lonesome. It was the first Vineyard we went to on this trip and the people at every other place lit up when we mentioned Porter. Although we went to some other great places, I can’t say anywhere else was more well known and loved by the people we talked to than Porter.

My wife and I visited the Porter Family Vineyards on a misty Sunday morning on Valentine’s Day weekend 2026. The stars aligned and we had the most delightful personal wine tasting and tour we’ve had in years (maybe decades?). Laura McClean, who conducted our tasting, is a rare combination of knowledge and elegance. We came away with a beautiful 2018 Barre Azure Bourdeaux-style blend that we’ll enjoy at home in Colorado. We hope to visit again in the not-too-distant future!

Our second trip here and we love it as much or more than the first! Everyone has been so friendly and interested in not only what we like but what we are up to in life. Florencia remembered a race that I ran back in 2023, asked about Carrie’s parents (who joined last time but not on this trip) and walked us through the vineyard.

After learning about our interests in wine, we did our first ever horizontal tasting (same year, same grape, different locations) and it was incredible to taste the differences of the terroir at such a local level.

Fingers crossed work will bring me back out next month for harvest time!
