My recent stay at the Pelican Inn was wonderful; the staff were inviting, the room was exactly the right level of quaint and cozy, and the breakfast was perfect before heading out for the day to explore Muir Woods and Sausalito. The staff went above and beyond when I realized that I had left an item of clothing in the closet of my room; they were quick to respond to my message asking if it had been found, and they were able to pop it in the mail for me the next day.
If you’re looking for an English Cottage stay in an idyllic part of California, a quick step to Muir Woods, Muir Beach, Sausalito, or Mill Valley, this is a great option!
Highly recommend midweek stay! Easy to find and brilliant location. Flat walk to the beach. Only an hour from Pleasant Hill.
Stayed here to light a fire on the beach to honor my brother who recently passed. I arrived mid day and ordered the Ploughman s Lunch. It was a beautiful selection of charcuterie, cheese, savouries and sweets. I had half put in a box for later.
Then I went to check in and realised I was a day late for my booking. (My fault, time changes, grief, craziness at this time.) The staff were amazing and kind. They helped me check in early. Found me a quiet place to wait. When they waived the night I missed, I had a little cry. I was able to book another room because it was midweek!
They organised a light and useful fire bundle for $25. Good for about an hours flaming fun. Everything needed including fire starters and a lighter! I got my fire started very quick and easily.
The bed was incredibly comfortable and I slept great. Woke up to birds and beautiful sunny morning shining into my snug four poster canopy bed.
Heaters above were on. Coffee was out by 7:30am. Meat and veggie options on the breakfast menu. Service in the restaurant was exceptional.
I am really impressed and grateful for the kindness. I will definitely book again, because
it is a refuge from the bay area craziness.
Thank you all for a great stay. I look forward to trying out The Mountain Inn to take in the wide ocean view.
My trout on salad was very good. Friends said the fish and chips were too breaded. Other friend said bangers and mash seemed inauthentic. The service and atmosphere were very good. Prices were reasonable. Short wait for a table on holiday weekend Saturday.
Perfect place outside of the city for those looking to take in a bucolic natural environment a short distance from the city. My wife and I used the convenient location to see Muir Woods National Monument early before the crowds. The food and beverages feel authentic to the setting and were savory and delicious. Grant, the barkeep, is a particular standout and offers helpful advice for hikes and other things to see in the local area. Would recommend to anyone with a sense of adventure!
I stopped into the Pelican Inn at 10 Pacific Way in Muir Beach on a Saturday evening with my girlfriend, aiming for a rustic, romantic dinner. The setting absolutely delivers that mood: a dim dining room, a real fireplace going, and a cozy old-inn feel that fits the foggy-coast vibe around here.
We were only there a little over an hour, but it was a comfortable hour. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and I appreciated that they were able to squeeze us in with a same-day reservation. For this part of Marin, the pricing felt fair—nice atmosphere without feeling like I was paying extra just for the scenery.
Food-wise, I started with the mushroom soup (as seen in my photos), and that was the standout for me—warm, earthy, and exactly what I wanted on a cool evening. I also tried the Beef Wellington (also in my photos). It was okay, but since it was my first time ordering it, I didn’t quite know what to expect, and I left thinking I probably should’ve gone with the 16 oz. porterhouse instead.
My main critique is that our server seemed pretty overtasked, which slowed the pacing and made it harder to get quick check-ins. The room was also a little noisy for how small and intimate it feels. Still, it’s a charming spot for atmosphere and a comforting meal after a coastal drive. Overall, I’d call it a solid 4/5 stars—worth doing once for the setting, even if I’m not completely sure it’s a repeat place for me.
