Ordered the birria tacos and a side of rice. Was quite surprised at how unflavorful the birria was. I added salt to the rice and tacos and it really helped the dish come alive.
My girlfriend ordered the carne asada taco and an enchilada. Her plate portions looked sooo tiny. The taco was almost a street taco size wise, and for the price, was a disappointment.
I gave these guys 5 stars because they were really trying on a difficult day. We came in for a late lunch on the 4th of July weekend and they were packed with a couple of large takeout orders as well, and the kitchen seemed to be struggling. The owner mentioned that they were behind and it would take a while to get our food, but we were okay waiting. Later we learned that they had a new cook and she was having some issues and clearly not keeping up with the orders.
Overall, the food was good, I would say the portions were on the smaller side. The prices have recently been raised, in some cases quite substantially – for example, the chili relleno was $9 and has gone up to $12.50, a 38% increase, but other things are still at the original, quite low price, like an enchilada for $3.50. We did wait quite a while for our food, but the owner kept us informed. I did empty my original canned soda and ordered another which they did not charge me for, similarly I asked for a side of beans which they also gave me for free.
All told, I think this is the best Mexican food around, and were it not for them having new kitchen staff, it would have been a really nice lunch. As it was, the fact that they were so up front about the challenges and gave us a couple of freebees to make up for it made for a satisfying meal. I’d go back here for sure.
What a great spot in downtown Point Arena…we ran in the place literally 5 mins before they closed, hoping to grab something without being a pain. The nice guy at the counter encouraged us to sit down & take our time.
Now to the food…I had the chicken mole & my wife had chicken tacos. Both were FANTASTICO!!!
Experiencing the dishes at this restaurant was like being transported back to my childhood kitchen, where the authentic flavors of Mexico were a daily delight, courtesy of my mother’s expert cooking. This establishment stands out as one of the premier destinations for truly authentic Mexican cuisine that I’ve had the pleasure of trying. Each bite was a vivid reminder of home, crafted with the same love and attention to detail that I remember so fondly. A must-visit for anyone seeking to experience genuine Mexican culinary traditions at their finest.

One of the few restaurants opened on a Tuesday.
