Amazing food, great service and handcrafted bevies keep us coming back time after time. We’ve tried so many of the menu items and you can’t go wrong here. The food and drinks are consistent. I cannot think of a single time the service by the staff was not impeccable. We are always greeted with a smile. We love our local spot!

Five stars for Mi Mexico Restaurant in Bakersfield. This is exactly the kind of Mexican restaurant I like finding while traveling: colorful, unpretentious, comfortable, and focused on serving a seriously satisfying meal.

The restaurant itself has a ton of character. From the bright pink exterior and patio to the colorful mismatched chairs and Mexican-themed décor inside, it feels warm and casual rather than generic or overly polished. The menu is also much larger than I expected, with everything from enchiladas, chile verde and carne asada to seafood, tacos, mole, breakfast dishes and desserts.

They started me off with a generous basket of chips and salsa. The chips were crisp, and the salsa had plenty of flavor and made it very easy to keep snacking while waiting for dinner.

For my entrée, I ordered the Chile Encuerado — a chile poblano stuffed with cheese and shrimp, covered in a white creamy sauce, and served with beans and white rice. This ended up being an excellent choice. The poblano had a great flavor, the shrimp worked really well with the cheese, and the rich creamy sauce tied everything together. The portion was huge, with the stuffed pepper taking up a substantial part of the plate and plenty of rice and beans alongside it. The beans were topped with pico and cheese, which was a nice touch.

This was definitely not one of those places where you leave wondering whether you got enough food. The meal was filling, flavorful, and felt like good comfort food without being boring.

Service was excellent during my visit. I was taken care of quickly, the food came out without an excessive wait, and everything I needed was handled without having to chase anyone down.

I also appreciated the variety on the menu. In addition to familiar Mexican-American favorites, they offer dishes like carne en su jugo, mole con pollo, tacos with chorizo and nopales, several chile verde preparations, and an extensive seafood section. There are enough choices here that I could come back several times and order something completely different each visit.

Mi Mexico was a great Bakersfield find. Good food, very generous portions, friendly service, a fun atmosphere, and a menu with plenty of variety. The shrimp-stuffed Chile Encuerado alone would be enough to bring me back.

So happy we finally stopped in. 10/10. Service was great, everyone was checking in, bringing drinks, clearing plates. The restaurant is small and they have small outdoor area. Menu was delicious. They have a whole vegetarian section, excellent margaritas. We all left full and happy.
