From Birria to Ceviche, Tacos to Carnitas and all other manner of Mexican cuisine, this family recipe focused establishment was the best food my fiancée and I consumed on our two week trip in California, bar none. The mole was not undersold, not to mention the incredible margaritas and cocktails prepared at the interior corner bar.
The staff was incredibly accommodating and friendly, we were overwhelmed for choice so Alyssa our server kindly walked us through the menu and brought us the Los Cuatro Moles as a sampler for their signature moles, as well as the Lola’s Guacamole and the Yellowtail Tuna Ceviche Crudo off of the specials menu. The gradient of fruity, savory, and spiced flavors was as eclectic as it was delectable. We brought a friend and shared all these dishes while deciding to cap the experience off with the astounding Birria Guadalajara: another family recipe. The pork shoulder was perfectly prepared and succulent in a way I have only found in Jalisco itself.
Beyond this, the bartender Brett was incredibly talented and sociable. The Lola’s margarita I ordered was flawlessly comprised and the cocktail options involved a staggering range of flavors. My fiancée ordered I’m In Love With The Coco, a sweet coconut-bodied margarita that was undeniable. Our friend ordered the Mexican Mule which was a refreshing and clean, mint-citrus experience.
Do NOT miss this restaurant, the home-reminiscent and comfortable atmosphere, disguises a culinary acumen at a reasonable price which honestly surprised me. We love this spot.

Great atmosphere and amazing food! The red salsa with chips is so good, and the Mexican street corn is packed with flavor. The birria tacos are my daughter’s favorite! Highly recommend this place!

Lola’s Mexican Cuisine on 4th Street in Long Beach, California is one of those rare Southern California treasures you almost want to keep secret, but the food is simply too good not to share. Tucked away in a vibrant corner of Long Beach residential side streets, Lola’s delivers modern contemporary Mexican cuisine with soul, color, and the kind of warmth that makes every visit feel like a celebration. From the moment you sit down, the experience hits you with authenticity and generosity. The Lolas Guacamole arrives like a green crown, creamy Hass avocado brightened with lime, cilantro, and white onion, finished with a snowfall of queso cotija. It’s the kind of starter that tells you the kitchen cares about craft. The El Trio street tacos is a tour through Mexico’s culinary heritage: chicken mole poblano layered with depth and chocolatey warmth, birria that melts into its own consommé, and carnitas that feel like they came straight from a family kitchen. Paired with Mexican rice and refried beans, it’s comfort and tradition on a single plate. Then there’s the showstopper: Shrimp Queso Tacos. Grilled Mexican shrimp wrapped in melted cheese with onions, cilantro, and fresh lemon, plus a side of consommé for dipping. It’s indulgent, playful, and absolutely addictive. For something deeply comforting, the Birria Guadalajara is a masterpiece. Protein simmered for six hours in a family adobo recipe until fork‑tender, served in a rich broth with onions, cilantro, garlicky whole beans, rice, and warm tortillas. It’s the kind of dish that makes you slow down and savor. The atmosphere matches the food, colorful plates, warm service, and a lively Long Beach energy that feels like home. Make sure you make a reservation, Whether you’re sharing tacos with friends, dipping chips into guacamole, or sipping a Cadillac margarita under the glow of Lola’s sugar‑skull sign, the experience is consistently memorable. We’ll be back! Gracias!

Loved it. Was a Taco Tuesday night, and came across this lovely restaurant. Sat down in the front dog-friendly patio, they also had a back patio. We tried the specialty street tacos- Mexican Coca-Cola glazed carnitas and signature birria, as wells as regular street tacos- carne asadas. All of them are great, especially loved the glazed carnitas- great sauce, juicy and tender. Also deserve a mention is their chip and salsas. The two different types of salsas compliment well with the restaurant style chips. Overall great experience with friendly service.
