Nice Cafe. Meals appeared big enough to eat and take half home!
2 of us shared the nachos. There was a lot but not the best if they were supposed to be Mexican food style. We couldn’t taste the white cheese sauce much. It was more like a pasta sauce style white cheese. The beef tasted like pan fried ground beef like I make cream beef on toast, not nacho style. Olives were odd tasting. Others meals looked good though just never been disappointed in a nacho before… clean , pleasant staff.
We had lunch at Lena’s during the holidays. It was our first time there. The eatery was cozy, but spacious. It was meticulously clean. We enjoyed the holiday decorations and movies playing. I had the club sandwich. It was huge! The ingredients were fresh and yummy. My husband ordered the “1,000 Burger”. He said it was cooked perfectly and very tasty. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The prices were fair considering the large portions we had. To be honest, we had thought Lena’s Cantina was a Mexican restaurant, but it’s not and we were glad! They have an extensive menu with a good variety of dishes. If you’re looking for a great place to eat in Portola, definitely check out Lena’s!
Got the fish & chips. Wish I didn’t. Soup was okay, as far as fish and chips I think the fryer oil is bad, the wrong temperature? I don’t know burnt. BAD!
The presentation of their plates is almost as good as the food itself. Beautifully done for such a relaxed environment. They always use fresh ingredients from the fish tacos right down to the freshly blended mango margheritas. My favorite lunch spot when I roll through Portola.
I did have to come back and edit my review due to the state of the restroom. It was very clean and pleasant; however it was situated mere steps away from the bar where anyone sitting there would be subject to any smells that might escape the restroom. There was barely enough tp for one use, literally a tiny squirt worth of soap in the dispenser, and the air freshener sputtered it’s last droplets of lavender scent and died there in my hand. Upon exiting, I also discovered that the door had not properly latched when I had closed it, so despite having locked it, someone could have walked right in on me at any moment. I felt sorry for the next gal who might have needed the facilities as there were no supplies left for her and I was not able to locate the waitress before leaving to let her know. So, because of my restroom experience I had to bring my review down from 5 stars to 4.
