I would not recommend this preparer. My parents used Lara’s Income Tax to file their 2024 return, which included a rental property. While reviewing the return in preparation for filing their 2025 taxes, we discovered significant errors. Most notably, depreciation on the rental property was never taken and the Schedule E entries were incorrect. These are not minor oversights. Missing depreciation has real tax consequences, and it meant we had to amend the 2024 return before we could even move forward with 2025, costing us significant additional time.

What made this experience especially frustrating was how they handled it when confronted. Rather than taking accountability, they shifted the blame onto my parents, saying it was something my parents should have known to bring up. My parents are not tax professionals. That’s exactly why they hired one. On top of that, my parents had provided their prior year’s tax return as reference, which was prepared by a different preparer who had correctly included the depreciation. If Lara’s office had done even basic due diligence and reviewed that document, they would have seen it and known to ask about it. They didn’t.

Instead of offering to fix their mistakes, they wanted to charge an additional $220 to file the amendment. When we pushed back, there was no accountability, just more blame-shifting. At that point, we decided we had no choice but to take our business elsewhere and have the return corrected by someone else.

If you have anything beyond a straightforward W-2 return, I would strongly encourage you to look elsewhere. Errors like these can cost you money and time, and if something goes wrong, don’t expect them to own it.
