This is a section of the redwoods we explored on the hike. The air was misty as if the mist brought you to the atmosphere equivalent to a rainforest, ever so slight, and ever so needed. Enchanting environment and unworldly trees that will show how small we are and how big the world really is. Where the sky disappears and the tree tops take over. Ancient, majestic, wonderful, breathtaking, and something you’ll just have to experience for yourself.

Easy loop trail through lovely forest close to the south visitor center. I was lucky to see some clear skies throughout. My recommendation is starting along the right route first (counter clockwise) when you reach the loop. Passing the dedication site was nice as well.
The drive up is along a paved road and fairly steep. You’ll pass under a wooden walkway bridge before entering the parking area.
Also I suggest downloading the offline map through the free NPS App before entering the park. It has all the trails, viewpoints, etc that can still be accessed without cellular connection and can help with your location within the park.

We love this trail because it is easy to walk. The scenery along the loop has some varieties which is the best part.
I myself enjoyed the wild flowers so much!

I am 68yrs old and am not in the best physical shape but my youngest grandchild wanted to take a hike in the forest
They spent a lot of time researching a trail I could walk so even though I was hesitant I said I would go and if I needed to stop we would turn around. It was perfect and beautiful. I made it around the whole loop.

Lady Bird Johnson Grove was worth seeing, but it doesn’t quite compare to Prairie Creek Trail.
The grove itself is peaceful and beautiful, and I’m glad I visited—it has its own quiet charm. That said, after experiencing Prairie Creek, the scale and magic here felt more modest in comparison.
The drive there—and especially the drive back—was quite stressful, which took away from the overall experience. However, there were still memorable moments that made the visit worthwhile. The wooden bridge in the beginning of the trail was absolutely stunning, and one of the highlights was spotting a fascinating bird-shaped growth on one of the trees—small details that made me pause and smile.
Overall, it’s a nice stop and worth seeing if you’re already in the area, but Prairie Creek remains unmatched for me.
